Gorsuch? Brilliant. Even if you\u2019re a liberal you should see that Judge Gorsuch brings balance to a court that leans left.<\/li>\n
His acceptance of LBTGQ rights? He has surprised liberals with his tolerance on this issue. Again, we will see where it goes. Perhaps it would be best if the decision were handed back to the individual states.<\/li>\n
His plans to lift regulations for Wall Street? I don\u2019t know the details, but putting more unrestricted power into the hands of the big bankers? That\u2019s worrying.<\/li>\n
His plans to lift regulations on the oil and coal industries? In his desire to create jobs he should not allow big business to destroy the environment.<\/li>\n
His plans to repeal Obamacare? He has also said he wants \u201cuniversal health care\u201d which is a good thing. We\u2019ll see how he manages that.<\/li>\n
His plans to repeal the Johnson amendment that bans churches from supporting political candidates? That could be good or it could be bad. It would depend on how faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ the pastors actually were.<\/li>\n
His plans to support freedom of speech and freedom of religion? That\u2019s a good thing right?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The most disturbing thing in the present climate is that if you acknowledge that some thing Trump has done are good the Trump haters will accuse you of being part of the Trump Gestapo. On the other hand, if you remain cautious and critical of Trump the Trump fan club will suspect\u00a0you of being a left wing, feminist, communist rioter.<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, it something terrible happens and Trump turns into the dictator and tyrant some fear, well buckle your seat belts and prepare for a bumpy ride. Catholics have spent the last two thousand years surviving tyrannical regimes. If Trump starts a\u00a0horrible war or brings about some unimaginable disaster then stand up and be counted, survive the best you can, help others who are worse off than you and seek peace in the world.<\/p>\n
It might just be that Mr Trump will be truly terrible president for four or eight years and the world will survive a stupid, egomaniac in high office, or he might turn out to be a moderately effective leader who happens to have a \u201cbull in a china shop\u201d style. Or he might surprise everyone and turn out to be a strong, good, fair no-nonsense president.<\/p>\n
Time will tell.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, don\u2019t forget Padre Pio\u2019s blunt advice: \u201cPray, hope and don\u2019t worry.\u201d<\/p>\n
