Today we conclude the first chapter of Mark\u2019s gospel.<\/p>\n

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.36Simon and those who were with him pursued him37and on finding him said, \u201cEveryone is looking for you.\u201d38He told them, \u201cLet us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.\u201d39So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.<\/p>\n

The Cleansing of a Leper.<\/strong>40\u00a0<\/span>A leper\u00a0came to him [and kneeling down] begged him and said, \u201cIf you wish, you can make me clean.\u201d41Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, \u201cI do will it. Be made clean.\u201d42The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.43Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.44Then he said to him, \u201cSee that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>45The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
