  1. He was a Benedictine monk. I\u2019m a Benedictine oblate and the monk in me will always hanker for the cell, the cloister and the bell.<\/li>\n
  2. He was a scholar. You got to love a Pope who is brainy.<\/li>\n
  3. He was a liturgist.<\/li>\n
  4. Gregory\u2019s great great grandfather was Pope Felix III \u2013 So he had a married clergy link!<\/li>\n
  5. He came from a wealthy, noble Roman family. Those noble aristocratic Catholic families\u2026gotta love \u2019em<\/li>\n
  6. He was bald. That\u2019s a good sign.<\/li>\n
  7. His mother and two aunts were venerated as saints. You know what they say\u2026\u201dGrace runs in families\u201d<\/li>\n
  8. He was a writer: the biography of St Benedict,\u00a0Liber Pastoralis\u00a0<\/em>(Rules for Pastors) a commentary on Job, revision of the Liturgy.<\/li>\n
  9. He was a musician. Gregorian chant is named for him and he one of the patron saints of musicians.<\/li>\n
