\"Pope<\/a>This week\u2019s article<\/a> for Aleteia regards the pope\u2019s attitude to money. Is it \u201cthe devil\u2019s dung\u201d?<\/p>\n

Finally, Catholic social teaching is not distinct from Catholic spiritual teaching. It is no mistake that Pope Francis called money \u201cthe devil\u2019s dung\u201d because what we do with our money is connected with what we do with our souls. Money becomes the devil\u2019s dung when it is worshipped instead of God. When we look to money for our source of security and trust it has taken the place of God. When we look to money for our source of self-esteem and confidence it has taken the place of God. When we give that money generously and focus on others the devil\u2019s dung becomes something greater.<\/p>\n

The lesson is simple: money might be the devil\u2019s dung, but dung has its uses. When it is hoarded in one place it stinks and rots the soul, but when the manure is spread around it fertilizes and makes everything grow strong and good.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
