Then the conversation turns to pornography.<\/p>\n

The Vision: a Swallows and Amazons return to nature; a traditional rope-swinging, make-your-own-fun, soap-free weekend that all kids love. And aged 13 and under they are still very much kids.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

The Conversation: the birds and the bees. Literally, then figuratively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Me: \u201cWell, I\u2019ve never seen online porn. Frankly, I wouldn\u2019t even know where to find it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A mass chorus of rosy-cheeked children drop their whittling knives: \u201cPorn Hub!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Furthermore, these ten to twelve year olds\u2013both boys and girls\u2013are not only viewing hard core porn online.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re viewing sado-masochistic sex.<\/p>\n

The middle class English mum\u2013sipping her wine and nibbling her sandwich as the children play rounders is not really that concerned.<\/p>\n

Her response?<\/p>\n

The affectionless images of couples \u00a0have been seared on their retinas while we thought they were still engrossed in Moshi Monsters. We can\u2019t undo that. Roll on the day that these tawdry images are superseded by real-life crushes on real-life objects of teenage desire, complete with irresistible spots, braces and greasy T-zones.<\/p>\n

Until then, I suggest we mothers grin and bare (sic) these excruciating insights into 21st century childhood, retaining a sense of humour and thus a sense of perspective.\u00a0The only way to combat the casual availability of porn is with laughter and the disinfectant of daylight\u00a0\u2013 there is no more powerful weapon in the psychological arsenal than overt mockery.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So not too bad really\u2013just make fun of it all a bit and treat it as something slightly dirty and unpleasant\u2013rather like you would if Poppy or Giles stepped in a cow pat while visiting Uncle Nigel\u2019s farm.<\/p>\n

She ends her nauseating article by admitting that Mummy\u2019s now rather interested too.<\/p>\n

The sex education \u2013 ours not theirs \u2013 is over for the day. What to do? Pour another stiff mug of Prosecco, fire up the barbecue and if there\u2019s a signal, gingerly Google Porn Hub.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
