\u201cIf this synod were the Church, I would say that it\u2019s the end of judging people, the end of a Church that passes judgment on all the situations,\u201d said Belgian Bishop Lucas Van Looy. \u201cIt\u2019s a Church that welcomes, a Church that accompanies, a Church that listens, a Church that also speaks with clarity.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Is anybody else weary of all the talk about the need for \u201ca new Catholic Church\u201d? Is anybody else suspicious of this talk about how judgmental we are, how nasty we are and how exclusive and rejecting we are? Does anybody else smell a rat with all this talk about \u201caccompanying\u201d, \u201clistening\u201d and \u201cwelcoming\u201d?<\/p>\n

Raise your hand if you have ever once in your Catholic life heard a priest bellow out condemnations and imprecations from the pulpit about anything at all. Any hands up? Probably not.<\/p>\n

Raise your hand if you have ever heard a sermon condemning artificial contraception, co habitation, homosexuality and pornography. Anyone?<\/p>\n

Raise your hand if you have ever heard of a priest blasting couples who have re-married after divorce, kicked them out of church and condemned them.<\/p>\n

I realize there may be some priests like that. I have never met any. I\u2019ve never heard any sermons like that. I have only known priest who are already willing to meet people where they are and help the go where they should be.<\/p>\n

Maybe they have been short tempered, lacking in time and not pastoral enough, but my experience of the Catholic Church is not like the one I keep hearing progressives grumble about. If anything the Catholic priests I know are already too lily livered to say anything negative or condemnatory about anyone at all.<\/p>\n
