This week I\u2019ve had people blaming whole groups for the crimes of a few.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had Christians saying, \u201cThe Jews killed Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had Jews saying, \u201cCatholics hate Jews because they say Jews killed Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had Christians saying, \u201cMuslims are terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stop. These accusations are stupid and dangerous.<\/p>\n

The Jews didn\u2019t kill Jesus. Some bad Jews killed Jesus.<\/p>\n

Muslims aren\u2019t terrorists. Some bad Muslims are terrorists.<\/p>\n

Christians don\u2019t hate Jews. Some bad Christians hate Jews.<\/p>\n

This is a logical error on the level of \u201cAll Cadillacs are cars therefore all cars are Cadillacs.\u201d<\/p>\n

By all means criticize the teachings of Islam. Analyze and criticize the teachings of Catholicism. Pick through the teachings of Judaism. All of that is good and fair discussion.<\/p>\n

By all means criticize the particular actions of particular Jews, Muslims and Christians to see if they live up to the teachings of their religion.<\/p>\n

By all means discuss the failures, foibles, crimes and misdemeanors\u00a0of the leaders of Islam, Judaism and Christianity.<\/p>\n

But rise above the temptation to say \u201cThe Jews killed Jesus. Catholics hate and kill Jews and Muslims are terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Treat others as you would like to be treated and avoid violence of word and thought as much as you would abhor physical violence.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
