I would like all of my readers to join me in taking a stand for life.<\/p>\n

Remember, our Holy Father has declared the death penalty inadmissible in all cases<\/a>. The death penalty is like abortion\u2013 it\u2019s direct killing of a human being. It\u2019s one of those things you are simply not allowed to do, because it\u2019s gravely evil.<\/p>\n

In just a few days, the State of Nebraska is going to execute Carey Dean Moore. Dean Moore grew up in poverty with little to eat and regular beatings from his father. When he was 21, he shot two cab drivers and was sentenced to death\u2013 his guilt is not in question. He has been on death row for 38 years. During this time he has repented of the murders and converted to Christianity. He is not a danger to anyone\u2013 there is no way in which killing him would protect society, even if direct killing was ever an acceptable act.<\/p>\n

The drugmaker<\/a> who produced the potassium chloride intended to stop Carey Dean Moore\u2019s heart is suing to block the execution, claiming that the drug was obtained from them unlawfully. There is mounting evidence<\/a> that a potassium chloride execution is an excruciating, violent death and the anesthetic typically administered during execution does not actually work. If the execution of Carey Dean Moore is carried out next week it will be the painful, inhumane direct killing of an abused person who committed a terrible evil but is no longer a danger to anyone and has already been suffering punishment for that evil for 38 years.<\/p>\n

I ask all my readers to appeal to the governor of Nebraska, Pete Ricketts, to stop this. Pete is a fellow Catholic. He has so far said that the Pope\u2019s declaration will not change his mind, but perhaps he can still be influenced. At any rate it\u2019s our duty to try to stop our brother Pete from killing our brother Carey before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n
