The ancient Jews loved their God and their Temple, but all this aside, they were TERRIFIED of it. \u00a0That\u2019s right, they were afraid of the Temple, and rightfully so, being that the Temple, like the Mass, held the Presence of God. \u00a0They were particularly afraid of the Holy of Holies, the Inner Sanctuary of the Temple that housed the Ark of the Covenant. \u00a0The Holy of Holies terrified them so much, that only one man had to go in, the high priest, and even he only did it once a year, to make the Atonement Sacrifice, and on top of that, they tied a rope around his waste to drag him out in case he died.\u201dBut that\u2019s okay, we\u2019re not Jews, we don\u2019t have to worry about that, right?\u201d

We, as Christians, worship the same God that the ancient Jews worshiped and feared so sincerely. \u00a0Christians should fear this same God with this same sincerity, if no more being that we have seen the complete fullness of not only his immense power, but also His love for mankind.<\/p>\n
So, why do we lack this fear of God? \u00a0We receive Communion, for those of you who don\u2019t know that means bodily receiving the GOD of Jacob, who (you know) created the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, with a\u00a0lackadaisical attitude. \u00a0We go before what the ancient Jews were so afraid of that they made preparations for death before doing it, without a thought, or a care. \u00a0Because we\u2019ve made God \u201cnice\u201d.<\/p>\n
To see how far this false \u201cnicety\u201d can take us, lets go back to the presence of the angels at Mass. \u00a0Many of us would believe that this means that there\u2019s an army of naked babies with wings floating through the church. This is not what Scripture tells us of the angels though. \u00a0In fact some of the angelic creatures described in the Scriptures would make Wes Craven crap his pants.<\/p>\n
Take this for example:<\/p>\nI can\u2019t even<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n(Seriously, the next time your kids act out in Mass, just tell them this thing is there\u2026)<\/p>\n
And just like we\u2019ve in our understanding changed what the angels are, so too have we changed what God is. We have made a \u201cStepford Jesus\u201d who never makes us change anything about ourselves. \u00a0Well unfortunately that isn\u2019t how God works. \u00a0God is the Almighty Creator, and like the Jews we should always be in awe and fear of Him. \u00a0Now many argue against this saying \u201coh, but God loves us.\u201d \u00a0As if love makes Him any less powerful. \u00a0If anything His great love for us should make us fear Him more, being that he is so intimately involved in our lives.<\/p>\n
And as such, I say to you as the Liturgy of St. John\u00a0Chrysostom says to all of us; whenever we go before God we should always \u201capproach with Faith, with Fear, and with Love.\u201d<\/p>\n
