Today\u2019s short isn\u2019t a fiction piece, and it\u2019s not animated. So, by virtue of those two facts, it\u2019s a bit of a departure from my typical offerings<\/a>. However, its description contains the following phrase: \u201c\u2026using a GoPro camera and a Quadcopter\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Seriously, though, this is gorgeous. Even if the technical details<\/a> behind Philip Bloom\u2019s<\/a> video were not quite so nerdtastic<\/a>, the imagery would make it worth your time. Just do yourself a favor and give it the Full-Screen HD treatment.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nI love the color palette \u2014 predominantly muted browns and golds and greens, but with those vibrant flashes of color. And the way the film\u2019s subjects respond to the filming, like the water buffalo. Or the motorcyclist on the causeway. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themusicbed.com\/artists\/gatlin-elms\/1489\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gatlin Elms\u2019<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/vMgxbChJVR4\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Thomas Newman-esque<\/a> score is a great compliment, as well, and I love the subtle sounds Bloom incorporates into his soundtrack \u2014 two or three times only, if I heard correctly.<\/p>\nBut the thing that really jumped out at me is the very thing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">ThisIsColossal<\/a><\/em>\u00a0pointed out in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisiscolossal.com\/2014\/06\/koh-yao-noi-philip-bloom\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">the post<\/a> that brought this video to my attention last week: It\u2019s an extraordinary example of \u201cmaking use of technology to quickly establish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Ko+Yao+Noi\/@8.1337572,98.600776,20219m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x3051b13397b8b591:0x70571a33c824c58d\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">such a strong sense of place<\/a>.\u201d Great stuff.<\/p>\nOh, and that little kid in the pink shirt? Awesome.
