I love the \u201cold-timey\u201d<\/a>\u00a0feel in this week\u2019s short, Buy Buy Baby<\/a><\/em>, which starts in the first few frames of the title and carries through all the way to the end credits. Even the length reminds me of those thrilling days (or Saturday mornings) of yesteryear<\/a>. I was practically raised on this sort of thing<\/a>.\u00a0Great stuff.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the roaring twenties and things are looking great for Frederick Frinklesworth II and the rest of the New York Stock Exchange, but when his daughter Betty is left in his care for the day can Fredrick and Wall Street survive the mayhem that ensues?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\nOK, so it\u2019s not narratively complex,\u00a0exactly. And it grows a bit gallows-humor-y towards the end. But it made me smile, because <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/summathissummathat\/files\/2014\/07\/Nathan-III.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">babies<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe visual imagination on display is fantastic \u2014 I think the line-drawn typewriter sequence is my favorite bit \u2014\u00a0and I\u2019m thrilled to learn that its creator,\u00a0one <a href=\"http:\/\/gervart.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gervais Merryweather<\/a>, is currently\u00a0working on a\u00a0\u201cnew animated short film likely to be released later in 2014; the director claims that this new project is one that is \u2018going to get lovers of 80\u2032s pop culture a little bit nostalgic!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\nI\u2019m in. Very in.<\/p>\nAlso, don\u2019t forget to look up\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.somebodyelseslightbox.blogspot.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Daniel Permutt, the short\u2019s concept artist<\/a>. His contribution\u2019s cannot \u2014 or should not \u2014 be overlooked.
