\"\"<\/a>I\u2019m slightly behind the curve here \u2014 the speed at which \u201cStar Wars\u201d<\/a> rumors fly \u2019round the Internet these days would make Doohan drool<\/a> \u2014 but this little one from Fanhattan\u2019s<\/em> otherwise \u201cBeing Human\u201d-themed interview<\/a> with Drew Struzan is worth the effort.<\/p>\n

Who is Struzan, you ask? The artistic mastermind behind the spectacular \u201cStar Wars\u201d posters<\/a> we all love so well. Yes, I said \u201call.\u201d I will brook no opposition on this point; they are fantastic. So is his legendary work on \u201cIndiana Jones.\u201d<\/a> But I digress.<\/p>\n

Fanhattan:\u00a0<\/strong>Last time you and I chatted, you talked about being retired, so I\u2019m thrilled to see new work from you. Are you working on any big new projects.<\/p>\n

Drew Struzan:\u00a0<\/strong>Oh, well, never say never, [laughs] because\u2026in fact, I got a couple calls already this week on\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0from Disney.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\/Film<\/em> asks the question<\/a> of whether a \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie can even exist without a Struzan poster, and The AV Club<\/em> has a quick analysis on what it portends:<\/a><\/p>\n

Of course, the promise of the man who helped immortalize the iconic imagery of\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0being asked to continue on with the franchise is just that: a promise, and a vague one that Struzan isn\u2019t exactly thrilled about. But it does suggest, again, that Disney is taking the job of preserving the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0legacy very seriously, in case you were maybe concerned that they\u2019d just slap some random lasers and robots on it and call it a day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As someone whose well-documented nostalgic tendencies<\/a>\u00a0are \u2026well\u2026documented,\u00a0and whose obsessions with all thing Sci-Fi Cinematic will doubtless lead me to expend vast swaths of time and bottomless reserves of emotional capital upon Disney\u2019s upcoming sequels<\/a>, the chance that its posters may find their way into such capable hands as his is an invaluable one. With Struzan (maybe, safely) in the fold, I can turn my attentions to the next thinly-sourced SW rumor that wafts past. Energy conservation is key; there\u2019s no way I\u2019m making it\u00a0all the way to 2015<\/a> without it.<\/p>\n

Also, yes. Struzan\u2019s been making SW posters longer than I\u2019ve been.<\/p>\n

Amazing. The Force is surely strong with that one.<\/p>\n
