To the surprise of absolutely no one, President Trump flew in the face of his own Treasury Department, in order to display his loyalty to a depraved, bloodthirsty dictator.<\/p>\n
On Thursday the U.S. Treasury Department announced new penalties against two Chinese shipping companies that were working to help North Korea get around the sanctions already in place.<\/p>\n
And that\u2019s the crux of it. North Korea has taken President Trump on a ride, running the long con to get out of sanctions, while giving nothing in return.<\/p>\n
Recent reports<\/a> suggest that long range missile production has never actually stopped, even as Trump praised Kim and his nation.<\/p>\n In response to mounting evidence North Korea is rebuilding key missile sites, Trump said earlier this month he would be \u201cvery disappointed\u201d in Kim if they were, in fact, being rebuilt, but added that \u201cI don\u2019t think I will be.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Let\u2019s not forget that, according to Trump, the two of them had \u201cfallen in love.\u201d<\/p>\n Even after walking away from the last summit, the president doesn\u2019t seem convinced that he was conned.<\/p>\n With that in mind, it should shock no one that Trump took to Twitter to make one of those surprise announcements today.<\/p>\n In a tweet,\u00a0Trump wrote that<\/a>\u00a0\u201cit was announced today by the U.S. Treasury that additional large scale Sanctions\u201d would be imposed in addition to \u201calready existing Sanctions on North Korea.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI have today ordered the withdrawal of those additional Sanctions!\u201d the president added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n That\u2019s right. The Treasury Department sees something that needs to be done, but the president stepped all over them. No one in the administration saw it coming, and this absolutely hinders the ability of the administration to do what is necessary to deal with the threat of a nuclear North Korea.<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s national security adviser, John Bolton, must be feeling particularly hamstringed. On Thursday, he made his own announcement, taking a decidedly more forceful tone in regards to the hermit nation and the need to keep them isolated.<\/p>\n Important actions today from @USTreasury<\/a>; the maritime industry must do more to stop North Korea\u2019s illicit shipping practices.
