{"id":604,"date":"2017-05-22T09:48:46","date_gmt":"2017-05-22T17:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/?p=604"},"modified":"2017-05-22T09:48:46","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T17:48:46","slug":"my-witchcraft-is-a-poetry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/05\/my-witchcraft-is-a-poetry.html","title":{"rendered":"My Witchcraft Is&#8230;(A Poetry of Contradictions)"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><figure id=\"attachment_337\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-337\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-337\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/654\/2017\/01\/Rooted-processed-web.jpg\" alt='\"Witch Essence: Rooted\" - painting by the author' width=\"500\" height=\"629\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-337\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cWitch Essence: Rooted\u201d \u2013 painting by the author<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>I\u2019m currently on the road for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/05\/cauldrons-of-the-west.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\"> my book tour<\/a>, but I decided to take a few moments to revisit this poem I wrote last year, and change its structure a bit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cMy Witchcraft Is\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is messy, unable to be contained in pristine neat rows and tidy jars.<br>\nBut it has a precise pattern, an order woven unto itself.<br>\nMy witchcraft lives within\u00a0the hum of the bones of a city.<br>\nIt also\u00a0dwells in the decaying depths of the forests.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is rooted\u00a0in memories, myths, and stories.<br>\nYet I am ever\u00a0looking toward the folklore of the future.<br>\nMy witchcraft talks to gods in many forms.<br>\nHowever, the magick depends not on the gods to function.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft speaks to connections between beings.<br>\nIts roots\u00a0curl within the wild of my own heart.<br>\nMy witchcraft is a gathering of spirits.<br>\nThe witch always walks alone.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft\u00a0dances in circles.<br>\nWitchery\u00a0knows no borders, edges, or bounding lines.<br>\nMy witchcraft chants, sings, cries, screams, moans, and whispers.<br>\nAnd it\u00a0revels in listening to perfect silence.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is a science of fur and bones, rocks and feathers, blood and flowers.<br>\nIts makeup\u00a0is a mystery of metal and circuits, electricity upon\u00a0concrete.<br>\nMy witchcraft curates a collection\u00a0of parts, bits, pieces, and ephemera.<br>\nYet, its practice\u00a0requires nothing of the physical to do its work.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is a honed skill, a craft, an art, a vocation, and a practice.<br>\nIt is born within: natural, metaphysical, and spiritual.<br>\nMy witchcraft is a weathered and worn\u00a0tableau of lines and marks, sigils, and symbols.<br>\nIt is also a blank and empty page:\u00a0new, fresh,\u00a0open and waiting.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is my thumbprint upon the world.<\/p>\n<p>My witchcraft is my own.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013 Laura Tempest Zakroff<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m currently on the road for my book tour, but I decided to take a few moments to revisit this poem I wrote last year, and change its structure a bit. \u201cMy Witchcraft Is\u2026\u201d My witchcraft is messy, unable to be contained in pristine neat rows and tidy jars.
