We<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/06\/biggest-cauldron-ever-see.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">\u00a0did\u00a036 events in 31 cities in 42 days<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you not that familiar with my history, I\u2019ve done quite a few tours since 2006 \u2013 for dance and for music, ranging from two to six weeks \u2013 with a wide array of folks. \u00a0This was the first tour that combined book events with art\/music\/dance, and primarily focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/04\/whats-in-a-pword.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">Pword <\/a>events and stores.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tour Life<\/strong><br>\nIt\u2019s hard to compare the different tours, but this one felt special all the way through. \u00a0The tour team (myself, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheMechanistandTheStarGoddess\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Nathaniel, and Davis Petterson<\/a>) worked very well together under pressure \u2013 which is crucial for touring. \u00a0Touring may sound fun and glamorous, but in reality it\u2019s a brutal schedule of getting up early, loading up, driving 2-8 hours, loading out and setting up, doing the thing, packing it up (and possibly out again), hoping for 5-7 hours of sleep \u2013 and repeat daily. \u00a0It takes a lot of self-control, resilience, and being mindful of how to be a good partner to all\u00a0involved. \u00a0Which is not easy for a lot of people. \u00a0Not to mention the months of extensive planning it takes to coordinate a tour.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_703\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-703\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-703\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/654\/2017\/08\/booktour3-300x225.jpg\" alt='Mystic South Dinner #2 with the \"super coven\" (yes, we jest)' width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-703\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Mystic South Dinner #2 with the \u201csuper coven\u201d (yes, we jest)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>So why do it? \u00a0<\/strong><br>\n\u2013 Touring means we get to meet many folks face to face who often can\u2019t travel to large events\/festivals for a number of reasons.<br>\n\u2013 We get to introduce our work (art, music, dance, writing) to all new people and see friends \u00a0&amp; family too.<br>\n\u2013 It helps make participating in larger events that don\u2019t have the budget to pay for airfare\/expenses a lot more feasible \u2013 while also helping out small businesses that wouldn\u2019t be able to afford the cost for a single event either.<br>\n\u2013 This particular tour enabled us to create content on the road, see how people responded \u2013 and now that is going into an album for <a href=\"http:\/\/Word%20count%20is%20500%20words%20maximum.%20Things%20are%20due%20in%20mid-September.%20Earlier%20is%20better.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Mechanist &amp; The Star Goddess<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diversity Wins<br>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_704\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-704\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-704\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/654\/2017\/08\/booktour4-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Performance at Arcana in Durham, photo by Juliana Finch \" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-704\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Performance at Arcana in Durham, photo by Juliana Finch<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>People have asked me what my favorite stop was \u2013 and I really don\u2019t see any easy or short answer for that. \u00a0They were all so very different and the majority of them were wonderful experiences. \u00a0We did a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/07\/in-which-i-survived-the-elements.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">big outdoor camping festival <\/a>(PSG) with a long history and a brand new indoor festival (Mystic South). \u00a0We did readings, workshops, and performances at OTO lodges, at night clubs, dance studios, healing spaces, Pagan-owned lands and temples, and all manner and sizes of occult\/metaphysical\/witch shops all over the country. \u00a0We had very intimate events with a small handful\u00a0of people \u2013 and packed rooms and fields \u2013 and they were equally awesome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But surely, you have a favorite? Maybe a surprise or two?\u00a0<\/strong><br>\nOk, ok \u2013 there were some stand-out moments, in a sea of stars, because I like it when I get surprised:<br>\n\u2013 <em><strong>Channeling Something<\/strong><\/em>: Teaching \u201cSigil Witchery\u201d to a packed room at Ami Amore\u2019s studio on approximately 4 hours of sleep \u2013 and not disclosing that information until I was done. \u00a0I still don\u2019t know how I managed to pull that off sounding coherent for 2 hours, but apparently I did.<br>\n\u2013 <em><strong>Tough Crowd?<\/strong> <\/em>Presenting a Llewellyn book at the Scarlet Woman OTO Lodge in Austin, TX \u2013 I have to admit I was a bit nervous, because I know many of my OTO-leaning friends are very much into rare\/small press esoterica \u2013 but in the end, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/07\/slagging-down-the-moon.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">it\u2019s all about the content right<\/a>? \u00a0The reception was wonderfully warm all around. And book talks are always better with wine. (Also, performing in their temple, and the New Orleans temple too was really special!)<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_705\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-705\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-705\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/654\/2017\/08\/booktour5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Gandalf at Herne's Hollow in DE. \" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Gandalf at Herne\u2019s Hollow in DE.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2013 <em><strong>No really,\u00a0Delaware?<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0The weekend of July 15\/16 was a tricky one when it came to booking it. \u00a0I was waiting for one festival to get their stuff together since the beginning of the year, plus\u00a0looking at events in no less than 3 other separate areas, which after promising starts\u2026but none of it came through. \u00a0Then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ivodominguezjr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ivo <\/a>reached out to me and made magick happen, even with his own incredibly busy schedule. \u00a0On Saturday, I did a book talk\/signing at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.findingavalon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Finding Avalon<\/a> \u2013 with all the books selling out, and the need to create an orderly line for signing \u2013 followed by a full room for our concert. Then we were off to Herne\u2019s Hollow\/The New Alexandrian Library for a double-header of workshops \u2013 with wonderful hospitality, amazing company, and fabulous, excited folks packing the workshops. I really felt welcomed and at home with those folks.<br>\n<em><strong>\u2013 But really, there were so many highlights!<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Haunted mansions, baby skunks, backyard bashes, ocean breezes, old school witchy shops, elegant clubs, sacred spaces, water main breaks, community art, whiskey! So much excellent hospitality, so many new and old favorite faces, that I hate to leave any stop out, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/tempest\/2017\/06\/biggest-cauldron-ever-see.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\">so be sure to check out all of the places we stopped.<\/a> \u00a0Each stop meant sharing our art, meeting folks, seeing beautiful places and faces, spending precious moments with amazing people (and their cats).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_706\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-706\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-706\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/654\/2017\/08\/booktour6-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Touring is serious business, so play hard!
