Bill Kristol points out that President Bush was courageous<\/a> in daring to look beyond identity politics and PC racial\/gender pandering in nominating John Roberts to the SCOTUS.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know that I would call it \u201ccourageous.\u201d<\/p>\n

I think I would call it \u201ctypical.\u201d Bush routinely picks the person he considers best for the job and even his most vehement enemies admit (and not even begrudgingly) that he is genuinely color\/gender blind in that regard.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s actually, I think, a very healthy \u2013 sort of \u201cclassically liberal\u201d \u2013 way to be\u2026to see a person as a PERSON, rather than as a race, gender, sexuality, etc.<\/p>\n

Clearly Kristol has fallen into the same trap\/habit of looking at a person and seeing a \u201ccatagory\u201d instead of a human being. Too many of us have. It would be good for our country if we could all get past it.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: Gerald is doing some unnecessary gloating because Roberts is a Catholic<\/a>. I just wonder if we\u2019ll have to hear Chuch Schumer carry on about his fears over Roberts\u2019 \u201cdeeply held beliefs\u2026\u201d It certainly bothered him with Pryor, who is also a Catholic.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
