You might like peeking into last year\u2019s Online Retreat<\/a><\/p>\n * * *<\/p>\n From April, 2009: AMUSING HUSBAND<\/strong><\/p>\n My husband came home from work today at 5 P.M.<\/p>\n This is something he has not done in our 26.5 years together, so understandably, I was concerned; he immediately began rummaging the kitchen for dark chocolate, which is his one vice.<\/p>\n I held my breath and asked the dread question: \u201cYou didn\u2019t get laid off, did you?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNo,\u201d he said, munching.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, er\u2026if you\u2019re feeling unwell, you probably shouldn\u2019t be eating chocolate.\u201d<\/p>\n He raised his eyebrows. \u201cThis from the woman who thinks chocolate should be called medicine. No, I\u2019m not sick.\u201d<\/p>\n This is very strange. I\u2019m not sure what to do with him home so early. He looked over my shoulder as I was busy selecting business cards, and he kept picking out religious ones. \u201cThat\u2019s pretty the cross and the rose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, pretty if I were a minister. Or, you know. . .an undertaker?\u201d<\/p>\n He pointed to another card, a cross over water \u2013 very \u201cfree inspirational booklet.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s awful,\u201d I said, making a face. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t only write about religion, I write about politics, too, so no.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWell, why don\u2019t you just put Obama\u2019s picture on your card, then it\u2019s political and religious, too!\u201d<\/p>\n He made me laugh, and I don\u2019t mind kissing a guy who tastes like dark chocolate, but I made him go away.<\/p>\n A few minutes later, I called him back in and asked his opinion on another card. \u201cHurry up,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m missing Cash Cab!\u201d<\/p>\n Oh, trouble.<\/p>\n On the rare day he comes home early, he plops down and watches Cash Cab. I have visions of our senior citizenhoods, (citizenshood?) and it makes me tremble.<\/p>\n So, right now he is all over the house looking for a snack because he is \u201cstarving.\u201d This is a man who can work until 10 P.M. without thinking of supper, but today he\u2019s home early and he\u2019s going through the cabinets and the fridge like a locust.<\/p>\n Elder Son is cooking tonight. I\u2019m not allowed to know what, but it has something to do with onions and ginger.<\/p>\n He says we\u2019re not eating for a while, so I have to go distract the husband before he eats a boxful of crackers and some olives.<\/p>\n Meanwhile \u2013 since I know some folks are only just now able to see me<\/a> since the transition, here\u2019s what you might have missed: Yesterday I demanded that I be named head of Homeland Security<\/a> and that no one named Janet ever be offered a cabinet post, again. Also, in that thread, I finally define what it is a \u201ccommunity organizer\u201d does. I also pointed you toward a 7 year of of uncommon sense and valor<\/a>, and two downright gorgeous short films<\/a> with downright Waughian flavors. The day before that, since I couldn\u2019t use the site much, I talked to Ed Morrissey for an hour<\/a> about this-and-that, and impersonated Roseanne Roseannadanna for him.
