This show has only been on the road for a few months<\/a> and I\u2019m already tiring of it.<\/p>\n What show is that? It\u2019s the Bill Clinton is the greatest living man in the East, West, North and South<\/a> dog-and-pony show that has been testing the waters for a while. Now Esquire magazine calls him The World\u2019s Most Influential Man<\/a> with accompanying bill-gasm<\/a>: Esquire editor David Granger argued that Clinton was poised to become \u201csomething like a president of the world or at least a president of the world\u2019s non-governmental organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n How exactly has Clinton \u201ctackled\u201d all of those \u201cglobal issues,\u201d beyond showing up, getting a picture taken, shaking a few hands and picking up the check? Can anyone tell me? Oh, right, he\u2019s like Hillary was in her vague way before she became a \u201csenator,\u201d he\u2019s now an \u201cadvocate!\u201d All that running around talking is really \u201ctackling\u201d an issue! He doesn\u2019t have to do anything substantial, never had to, as long as he bit his lip and used all the right words<\/a>.<\/p>\n I recall on Bush\u2019s first inaugural day, what a spectacle Clinton made of himself, aided and abetted by the adoring media which would not take their cameras off him\u2026\u201cgasp \u2013 Au revoir, Bill! We can\u2019t stand to see you go! (Sob, sob\u2026Oomp!)\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n They followed him to the plane hanger where he, no longer Commander in Chief, reviewed the troops he never much cared for while he was president (hell, he couldn\u2019t even be bothered responding when 17 of his sailors were ambushed in Yemen.) The media hung on his every word while he did his humble-cornpone guffaw, \u201cAh\u2019m still here!\u201d before getting serious\u2026\u201dwe did some good thangs!\u201d (Not actually on Education, Social Security, Taxes, Medicare, AIDS, poverty, human freedom<\/a> or, you know, TERRORISM<\/a> \u2013 but they did manage to do some \u201cgood thangs,\u201d \u2013 welfare reform was a notable success<\/a>. Unfortunately they also erected a wall between the FBI and the CIA; they made human intelligence extremely hard to come-by by insisting that only pure and good people work as or with informers\u2026unfortunately pure and good people are not the sort who hang with terrorists, but hey, hey, we all feel good<\/em> about ourselves, don\u2019t we? Then that\u2019s all that matters.)<\/p>\n I\u2019m not the only one to notice<\/a> that Bill and Hillary are falling back on their tried and true triangulation<\/a> method (whoever is running for president steps center<\/em> while the other one reassures the left<\/a>) in pursuit of their ambitious double fantasy<\/a>, but you have to look to the blogs, and a few \u2013 only a few \u2013 newspapers to find the appropriate level of disgust<\/a> he is due for going before students in the United Arab Emirates and declaring \u2013 on foreign soil, during a time of war, mind you \u2013 that his successor\u2019s undertaking against a tyrant, an undertaking he thought about in 1998<\/a> and defended<\/a> in 2003, (\u201cWhen I left office, there was a substantial amount of biological and chemical material unaccounted for . . . it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks . . . \u201c<\/em>) was a mistake<\/a>. Aside from being a weasly and cowardly thing to do, he classlessly breaks a long tradition of ex-president\u2019s not criticising a sitting president \u2013 a tradition and courtesy, it must be said \u2013 his predecessor afforted to Clinton, when he was in office.<\/p>\n What a feckless human being he is. And how the press continues to look the other way at such behavior! Do you think for one moment, if a former president had criticized him while he was in office the silence would be so deafening?<\/p>\n Pretty much everything is in place. There are now Clintonistas set up in positions of power and authority in every media and informational venue<\/a>, all over the world. They\u2019ve either \u201cbecome\u201d journalists, like George Stephanopolis (and several others) in America and Sidney Blumenthal in England, or \u201cmarried\u201d journalists, women like Jennifer Loven and Christiane Amanpour, who can be counted on to do their jobs.<\/a><\/p>\n This is unprecedented. Presidents used to retire and their staffers wrote books and became law partners or lobbyists. But the Clinton team suffers from an excess of ambition and energy. Right now, there are Clinton operatives in television, in movies, in book publishing \u2013 one thing you must admit, it is Bill Clinton, and not Howard Stern, who is King of All Media. Things, as I say, are \u201cin place.\u201d<\/p>\n And as every good tyrant knows\u2026if you are the King or Queen of All Media and you\u2019re looking for your crown and sceptor\u2026well\u2026then all you have to do is keep the rhetoric close to meaningless<\/a>, and rein in your appetite<\/a>. Then you step aside and rehearse your lines<\/a>, and wait for your many-tentacled minions to do the work of destroying whoever they must and clearing the path for your own easy access<\/a>\u2026and then you simply slip onto the throne<\/a>.<\/p>\n Even Napoleon had to pick his crown up from the gutter. Bill and Hillary\u2019s path is being made so straight for them, they won\u2019t have to stoop to conquer.
