<\/a><\/p>\nThat\u2019s my photo of Raphael\u2019s Triumph of the Cross over Paganism<\/em>. Like all of my photos it\u2019s short-sighted and a little off-center. Like me.<\/p>\n I wanted to write something of my own for Holy Thursday,<\/strong>, but the day completely got away from me, thanks to running around getting Buster\u2019s lungs seen-to and narc\u2019d up. My big beefy son gets off the plane last night looking green and coughing like Camille about to expire. I don\u2019t get it. How can someone so big be so delicate?<\/p>\n Anyhow\u2026I\u2019ve taken a look at all the work I have on my desk and the obligations and commitments and realized I have no time to write, just now.<\/p>\n But here is my Holy Thursday observation:<\/strong><\/p>\n We can go to Jesus with anything. The Self-Immolating Bridegroom and God<\/strong><\/a> who will kneel before us \u2014 on His knees, to wash our lowly feet! \u2014 is a God of such unfathomable love (and mysterious humility) that He is unlikely to be standoffish, or even take umbrage, if you find yourself so overwhelmed by events that you feel like a quarterback about to be sacked and looking for an opening; you can hand-off the ball to Him and say, \u201cLord, please run it for me\u2026you know what\u2019s needed,\u201d and then put the great concerns out of your mind.<\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s like that story of the pope<\/strong> \u2014 I don\u2019t remember which one \u2014 who would kneel by his bed and finish his prayers with, \u201cit\u2019s your world, Lord; I\u2019m going to sleep.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Sometimes, all we can do is say \u201cLord, you know where the goal is\u2026please get us there<\/strong><\/a>\u2026I gotta go pay bills\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Just published over at Washington Post<\/strong> \u2014 my piece on Why We Need Holy Week<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u201c. . . art moves from the heart through the hand to create masterpieces; rage moves from the heart through the hand to wreak havoc. This is precisely why Jesus Christ warned his followers that to lust in the heart is to already use and exploit another. It is why he advised us to keep our thoughts unencumbered \u2014 to let our yes be yes, and our no be no. Anything more than that tempts chaos.<\/p>\n These are not quaint ideas, but powerful truths that we moderns have lost touch with, and I go to confession because I understand that I have failed in following Christ\u2019s lead. But I also go because I want to be challenged about it. I don\u2019t want to hear \u201cwell, everyone gets mad, sometimes but you\u2019re still a good person. It\u2019s not like you killed someone, or anything\u2026\u201d because in truth, it\u2019s not alright to give anger an opening, I\u2019m not a \u201cgood person\u201d and it is exactly like I killed someone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Read the rest here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Msgr.
