When they offer me a sip, I sometimes accept and it\u2019s usually followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/summathissummathat\/2013\/05\/no-commentary-necessary-first-taste-edition\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PatheosCatholicBlogSummaThisSummaThat+%28Blog+-+Summa+This%2C+Summa+That+-+Catholic+Portal%29\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">one of these expressions<\/a>, and a polite, \u201cwell\u2026enjoy that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But recently my son offered me a choice of several beers and \u2014 because this is exactly how easily I am swayed by marketing \u2014 I said, <em>\u201coh, that label is really cool! I\u2019ll try that!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/7\/2013\/05\/thelonious-monk-beer.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/7\/2013\/05\/thelonious-monk-beer-e1368312681494-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-44710\"><\/a><br>\n<em>My Photo, 2012<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It really <em>is<\/em> a cool label.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But Brother Theolonious Belgian-Style Abbey Ale<\/strong> is more than just a pretty face. Served up to me in one of those fancy \u201cBelgian Ale glasses\u201d the Monk was rich, a little raisin-y; it had a heft and a fullness that suggested density, although the beer wasn\u2019t really thick. I actually finished the thing, which I never do with any beer but Guinness. Yeah, it\u2019s yummy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcoastbrewing.com\/index2.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The North Coast Brewing Company<\/a>, which also makes the so-heavy-it\u2019s-terrifying Old Rasputin makes Brother Thelonious as part of its \u201cAmerican Artisan Beer Series\u201d and you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northcoastbrewing.com\/beer-brotherThelonious.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">read about the beer<\/a> or read about the artwork <a href=\"http:\/\/northcoastbrewing.com\/blog\/artist-eduardo-smissen-and-the-brother-thelonious-packaging\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>There is even a Jazz CD made in honor of the beer \u2014 you can <a href=\"http:\/\/northcoastbrewing.com\/thelonious-cd.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hear samples here<\/a> \u2014 with 100% of sales proceeds donated to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monkinstitute.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz<\/a>, \u201cto further international Jazz education programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s cool, too!<\/p>\n<p><strong>I thought the label was interesting,<\/strong> and the brew even moreso.
