Okay, this is a little \u201cofficially weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019d been playing with the idea of podcasting the 4 mysteries of the rosary, for Lent, as a help for those who wanted to pray the rosary every day and might like the company. But then my computer had problems and podcasting was out.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d forgotten all about the idea of doing the rosary.<\/p>\n

But today \u2013 Feb 20 \u2013 all day, two things kept pounding in my head. The first was: \u201cMake those rosary podcasts, because the rosary is our weapon\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWeapon\u201d<\/em>, I kept thinking, \u201cweapon for what?\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I got pounded with Fatima<\/a>: \u201cif my message goes unheeded Russia will spread her errors\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

And I\u2019m saying, \u201cwhat the heck<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n

So, finally, nagged all day like this, I sat down to do a bit of research into Fatima and the Rosary, and what do I find?<\/p>\n

Blessed Jacinta and Francisco Marto \u2013 Feast is February 20<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The little beatas have been nagging me all day!<\/em> Talk about your communion of saints, and things seen and unseen!<\/p>\n

Come on\u2026that is officially weird.<\/p>\n

So, here is the deal. I\u2019m going to refresh my memory about Fatima. I don\u2019t recall much about that series of Marian apparitions<\/a>, which occured in 1917, in Portugal, at the place named for a daughter of Mohammed<\/a>. I know what most know;<\/p>\n

a)<\/strong> During the final apparition there was a miraculous bit of sun-dancing<\/a> that quickly dried the 70,000 soaking wet witnesses, who\u2019d been standing in mud and rain.<\/p>\n

b)<\/strong> Mary told her three visionary children \u2013 Lucia<\/a>, Jacinta<\/a> and Francisco<\/a> \u2013 that, among other things, if Russia was not converted, that nation would \u201cspread her errors throughout the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pope John Paul II, avowed enemy of the socialist state<\/a>, felt an especial connection to Fatima;<\/strong> the assassination attempt made against him in 1981 happened on the anniversary of the first Fatima apparition<\/a>, and he always credited Our Lady of Fatima the guiding the mysterious path<\/a> of the bullet which should have killed him.<\/p>\n

Apparitions such as those at Fatima and Lourdes<\/a>, which are \u2013 after extensive investigation by Rome<\/a> \u2013 declared \u201cworthy of belief\u201d are not compulsory to Catholicism, as they are considered \u201cprivate\u201d revelations that do not add to the deposit of faith<\/a>. Catholics are perfectly free to ignore apparitions if they want, and I mostly do. Quite honestly, I share then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger\u2019s stated fear that over-emphasizing some of the \u201cmessages\u201d can precipitate an unhealthy fixation<\/a>, although \u2013 as I have written before \u2013 I do have a warm spot for Lourdes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But perhaps, as I watch my nation devolve with astonishing quickness<\/strong> into a socialistic entity that resembles all-too-nearly<\/a> the \u201cerrors\u201d of Russia (errors to which the US seemed immune until very recently) I am ready to look at Fatima. If, as some tell me, Rosaries<\/a> are \u201cweapons\u201d against both the socialist state, well, I say the rosary every day anyway, so why not put my intentions in that direction?<\/p>\n

The podcasts will be forthcoming, for anyone who wants to pray along with me. Of course you know, I\u2019ll be inviting Pope John Paul II and Cardinal John O\u2019 Connor \u2013 among others \u2013 along for the ride, too.<\/p>\n

UPDATE:<\/strong> I attempted to record the Joyful Mysteries last night but \u2013 after an hour \u2013 had to give up as a strange noise kept interfering. Will try again today.<\/p>\n
