Nothing would surprise me.<\/p>\n Perhaps President Obama, who received a rather tidy Book Advance<\/a> just before he was sworn in, (does anyone else remember how Newt Gingrich got castigated for \u2018using his office to sell a book\u2019<\/a>?) should donate some of the proceeds of his advance, say\u2026I dunno, 90%<\/a> \u2013 to the Special Olympics, to show he doesn\u2019t really think that it\u2019s okay to joke about \u201cextra chromosome people\u201d like Al Gore did<\/a> (yes, I remember everything). Or, at least, that he should not insult disabled people by comparing them to himself, or to political junkies, in general.<\/p>\n As a political junkie, I can say that.<\/p>\n Sigh. One almost gets tired of saying it, but one must say it, still: Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would do with that, had Bush said it. Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would have done with the Irish PM Teleprompter gaffe (the press has helpfully embargoed the video<\/a>, so Obama doesn\u2019t have to see it playing 24\/7, as Bush would have \u2013 had Bush so gaffed). Can you IMAGINE what the press and the Dems would have done if Bush had given the Prime Minister of Great Britain a lousy pack of 50 \u201cClassic\u201d DVD\u2019s that didn\u2019t work in the UK<\/a>?<\/p>\n Another story the press isn\u2019t actually covering\u2026<\/p>\n Without the help of the press \u2013 hiding his mistakes, never asking a tough or uncomfortable question, not even curious enough to ask to see his grades in college \u2013 where would<\/em> this guy be? I\u2019m thinking he wouldn\u2019t be in the Oval Office, right now, that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n So, tonight, he gets forty minutes on Leno. Next week he\u2019ll have all four networks ditching programming and losing money for him.<\/a> Again.<\/p>\n When things get hot, when the polling isn\u2019t going right, when he feels unloved, or he needs to be happy, he gets on his big, expensive-to-run Air Force One, with his limos, etc, and he steps before the camera.<\/p>\n Gonna be a long four years.<\/p>\n President Bush was no cool cat, but he was a master of self-deprecating humor. I give Obama credit for trying it out\u2026but maybe he\u2019d better practice it more! Patterico notes that the press is playing it down<\/a>. That\u2019s not surprising. It was<\/em> a failed attempt at humor, and you know what? I\u2019d love to ignore it, I really would. When the double-standards end<\/em>.<\/p>\n In an email exchange, the point was made that Obama seems to be everything the left projected about Bush. The stumblebum suit being operated from behind. All those projections. You know about projection, right? It is when you take the thing that is inside you; hate, fear, insecurity, malicious motives, etc \u2013 and you project it on to someone else. For instance, during the election, I kept getting emails from folks on the left insisting that Bush \u2013 the powermongering fascist \u2013 would never allow another election to happen.<\/p>\n That\u2019s maybe the projection I worry about, sometimes.<\/p>\n And now, I guess I understand what all the folks on the left used to feel when they claimed the president \u201cembarrassed\u201d them.<\/p>\n Ed Morrissey<\/strong> writes<\/a>: You know how you can tell when a President has a bad day?
