I am getting the oddest variety of emails.<\/strong> Many, many good wishes from people who appreciate First Things<\/em> and agree with me that I\u2019m privileged to be part of it; a few people who liked me better as a lone wolf and don\u2019t know if they\u2019ll come around too often, and a lot of really angry folks looking for specific pieces they want to read on a Friday night and a bit miffed that they can\u2019t find them. \u201cWhy are you doing this,\u201d they\u2019re yelling, \u201cI liked it better the old way!\u201d<\/p>\n

I feel a little bit like Fr. Damian, the guilt-ridden priest in The Exorcist<\/em>, who kept hearing his poor institutionalized mother ask, \u201cwhy you do this, Dimmy? Why you do this to me?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Why you do this, Anchoress?<\/em><\/a> Why you do this to me?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sorry.<\/strong> But every root-canal comes to an end, and the pain is almost over. Then you\u2019ll be glad I did this because and I am not going to change<\/em>, as some of you fear. Joseph Bottum, the editor of First Things<\/a>, was very clear that he wanted my site, precisely<\/em> as I had built it, snark, opera, and polluted politics all-together. I take him at his word, so this should be fun. Tomorrow morning you\u2019ll type in \u201canchoressonline.com\u201d and you\u2019ll read me, same as ever, but then you\u2019ll simply press a side button and poof!<\/em> you\u2019ll be treating yourself to Spengler<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Come on, guys, you love<\/em> Spengler! And then, with the click of a button you\u2019ll also read the daily On the Square article<\/a> which you will always<\/em> find worth-reading, no matter who writes it (and some days it might even be written by me<\/a>.) And look<\/em>, while you\u2019re over there, you\u2019ll probably happen to notice something great, like this piece by Archbishop Timothy Dolan<\/a>, that you might otherwise have missed! (I know you love Archbishop Dolan; you\u2019re a fan, just like me<\/a>!)<\/p>\n

And then, by the time you\u2019re done reading all of that, it will be time to see what else I\u2019m grousing about or linking to, and there you go. Believe me, you\u2019re going to be so busy bouncing between First Things<\/em> and this site that you\u2019ll be downright giddy. And these days anything that can make us a little giddy should be undertaken!<\/p>\n
