\nSecond Antiphon for First Vespers in the 5th Sunday of Easter<\/em><\/p>\n

A shorter evening prayer, for a day when the head feels like it is spinning a bit:<\/p>\n

Antiphon 1:<\/strong> Like the evening offering my hands rise up in prayer to you, O Lord, alleluia<\/p>\n

I have called to you, Lord, hasten to help me!
\nHear my voice when I cry to you
\nLet my prayer arise before you like incense,
\nthe raising of my hands like an evening oblation.<\/p>\n

Set, O Lord, a guard over my mouth;
\nkeep watch at the door of my lips!
\nDo not turn my heart to things that are wrong,
\nto evil deeds with men who are sinners.
\n\u2026
\nTo you, Lord God, my eyes are turned:
\nin you I take refuge, spare my soul!
\nFrom the trap they have laid for me keep me safe:
\nkeep me from the snares of those who do evil.
\n \u2014 Psalm 141<\/p>\n

Glory to the father\u2026<\/em>
\nAntiphon 2:<\/strong> You have led me forth from my prison, that I may give praise to your name, alleluia.<\/p>\n

With all my voice I cry to the Lord,
\nWith all my voice I entreat the Lord.
\nI pour out my troubles before him;
\nI tell him all my distress
\nwhile my spirit faints within me.
\nBut you, O Lord, know my path.<\/p>\n

On the way where I shall walk
\nthey have hidden a snare to entrap me.
\nLook on my right and see:
\nthere isnot one who takes my part.
\nI have no means of escape,
\nnot one who cares for my soul.<\/p>\n

I cry to you, O Lord.
\nI have said: You are my refuge,
\nall I have left in the land of the living,\u201d
\nListen then to my cry,
\nfor I am in the depths of distress.<\/p>\n

Rescue me from those who pursue me
\nfor they are stronger than I.
\nBring my soul out of this prison
\nand then I shall praise your name.
\nAround me the just will assemble
\nbecause of your goodness to me.
\n \u2013Psalm 142<\/p>\n

Reading:<\/strong> You are \u201ca chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people he claims for his own to proclaim the glorious works\u201d of the One who called you from darkness into his marvelous light. Once, you were no people, btu now you are God\u2019s people; once there was no mercy for you, but now you have found mercy.
\n \u2014 1 Peter 2:9-10<\/p>\n

The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia, when the saw the risen Lord, alleluia!<\/p>\n

Intercessions<\/strong>: Christ is our life and resurrection. Let us cry out to him in faith:
\nSon of the living God, protect your people.<\/em>
\n \u2013 For your church, the body of Christ
\n \u2013 For the sick and the sorrowful
\n \u2013 For those in bondage and exile
\n \u2013 For those who have requested prayer of each other this day
\n \u2013 (add your own intentions \u2013 and please whisper one up for me, if you will)<\/p>\n

Our Father\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
\nyou have revealed to the nations your saving power
\nand filled all ages with the words of a new song.
\nHear the echo of this hymn.
\nGive us voice to sing your praise
\nthroughout this season of joy.
\nWe ask this through Christ our Lord.<\/p>\n

My the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
