I have twice addressed Rabbi Alan Lurie\u2019s HuffPost articles and their assertions about God.\u00a0 You can find my posts\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lurie has recently written\u00a0another post<\/a>\u00a0there called \u201cWhy the Universe Obviously Has a Creator (and Why Some Atheists Refuse to Even Consider It).\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m not going to bother with it here.\u00a0 Jerry Coyne at\u00a0Why Evolution is True<\/a>\u00a0has already addressed it very adequately on his blog and HuffPost.<\/p>\n

But I do want to address one thing that Lurie wrote in\u00a0a\u00a0<\/a>post addressing Coyne\u2019s critique:<\/p>\n

Some of the greatest scientists were mystics and deep believers in a Creator: Copernicus, Maimonides, Kepler, Descartes, Newton, Mendel, Einstein and Planck, just to name some giants.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First of all, Maimonides was not in any sense a scientist, certainly not any more than any other medieval physician.\u00a0 Secondly, Newton also believed in alchemy so what the hell does that mean? \u00a0Finally, and this was the most irritating part, Albert Einstein was NOT a believer.\u00a0 This is simply a lie.\u00a0 And the one who said it was a lie was Einstein:<\/p>\n

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s just one of dozens of similar comments that he made.<\/p>\n

So, Rabbi Lurie, may I respectfully suggest that while you are free to make any wild claim or assertion about the \u201creal\u201d God that you like, you are not\u00a0entitled to make such claims and assertions about actual people when they are so obviously untrue. \u00a0Please, please, PLEASE stop using Albert Einstein to justify your faith.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
