The only thing more pathetic than listening to the Republican candidates try to top each other on who\u2019s more Christian is listening to them talk about Islam.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t watch the debate the other night because I\u2019d rather drink a gallon of Drano than spend two seconds with these people on my television set.\u00a0 I did hear some of the lowlights.\u00a0 Take for example Godfather\u2019s Pizza CEO Herman Cain (via CNN\u2019s site<\/a>):<\/p>\n

The exchange on that issue opened with a question to former Godfather\u2019s Pizza CEO Herman Cain, who had said previously that he wouldn\u2019t feel comfortable appointing a Muslim to his presidential Cabinet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not be comfortable because you have peaceful Muslims and then you have militant Muslims \u2013 those that are trying to kill us,\u201d Cain said at Monday night\u2019s debate. \u201cAnd so when I said I wouldn\u2019t be comfortable, I was thinking about the ones who are trying to kill us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yes, genius, we all agree that you shouldn\u2019t appoint people to your cabinet who are trying to kill us.\u00a0 That includes Muslims and mad scientists.<\/p>\n

The Newt was also on board with Cain:<\/p>\n

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich quickly\u00a0jumped in \u2026 siding more with Cain over the issue of Islam. Gingrich invoked Faisal Shahzad,\u00a0the so-called Times Square bomber of 2010, who is a U.S. citizen from Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, I just want to go out on a limb here,\u201d Gingrich said. \u201cI\u2019m in favor of saying to people, \u2018If you\u2019re not prepared to be loyal to the United States, you will not serve in my administration, period. \u2018\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did this in dealing with the Nazis and we did this in dealing with the communists,\u201d Gingrich continued. \u201cAnd it was controversial both times, and both times we discovered after a while, there are some genuinely bad people who would like to infiltrate our country. And we have got to have the guts to stand up and say no.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019m scratching my head trying to remember when we had the big \u201cNazi appointment to the presidential cabinet\u201d controversy.\u00a0 As for the Commies, I do remember a history lesson about mass hysteria that there was one under every bed and that they were running the army and\u2026gasp\u2026writing screenplays.<\/p>\n

I am not a big admirer of Islam (or fundamentalist Christianity or Orthodox Judaism for that matter).\u00a0 But this Islam-baiting is an example of the worst in populist American politics.\u00a0 Newt cites some anti-American Muslim who happens to be a U.S. citizen to prove that we have some vast Islamic infiltration of our government and no one makes a peep.\u00a0 Where is the latter day Joseph Welch who will stand up and say, \u201cHave you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
