Well here\u2019s proof that creationists themselves do know something about evolution.\u00a0 Right before our very eyes they are evolving their own slimy methods to get their religious teaching back into science classrooms.<\/p>\n

Never mind the fact that 60% of American science teachers are already avoiding the subject of biological evolution.\u00a0 That\u2019s not enough for these cavemen.\u00a0 The Dover case killed \u201cintelligent design\u201d as the wedge for creationism.\u00a0 So their new tactic, detailed quite well by Laura Lebo in Scientific American<\/i><\/a>, is to create phony \u201cacademic freedom\u201d laws that are really covers for allowing the introduction of religious dogma into science instruction.\u00a0 Tennessee, Oklahoma and New Mexico<\/a> are considering such legislation:<\/p>\n

As with other anti-evolution bills, the Tennessee legislation does not actually mandate the inclusion of creationist or ID teachings. Rather, it says that educators may not be prohibited from \u201chelping students understand, analyze, critique and review in an objective manner the scientific strengths and scientific weaknesses of existing scientific theories covered in the course being taught.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course we know who\u2019s behind all of this:<\/p>\n

As with other anti-evolution bills, Tennessee\u2019s seems to be based on sample legislation written and promoted by the pro-ID Discovery Institute.<\/p>\n

Sponsor Rep. Bill Dunn (R\u2013Knoxville) said [David] Fowler [head of the Family Action Council of Tennessee<\/a>] submitted the legislation to him in early February. The latter\u2019s organization is associated with James Dobson\u2019s conservative Christian Focus on the Family and advocates for \u201cbiblical values\u201d and \u201cgodly officials\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
