It\u2019s a darn shame that Israel doesn\u2019t have legislation similar to the U.S. RICO laws<\/a>.\u00a0 Maybe then Haredi gangsters wouldn\u2019t receive two lousy years in prison after repeated and coordinated attacks on innocent people.\u00a0 From yesterday\u2019s Ynet<\/a>:<\/p>\n

A member of Jerusalem\u2019s so-called \u201cChastity Squad\u201d who attacked a store owner and drove away his customers \u2013 is going to jail, The Jerusalem District Court decided Tuesday. Judge Nava Ben-Or sentenced Shmuel Weisfish, 24, to two years in prison following his conviction for several charges of violence against the owner of an electronics store in the ultra-religious Geula neighborhood in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

These crimes are the result of a well-synchronized conspiracy to commit extortion, assault and arson.<\/p>\n

According to the indictment<\/a>, Weisfish took part in \u201cChastity Squad\u201d protests that were regularly held outside the computer store, which the members accused of selling \u201cnon-kosher\u201d MP4 players. According to the \u201cChastity Squad\u201d, the gadgets expose users to inappropriate content.<\/p>\n

During these demonstrations, which began in June 2008, Weisfish would drive customers out of the store, damage merchandise and threaten to murder the employees and burn the store down.<\/p>\n

\u2026At a certain point, Weisfish and another man dragged the store manager out of the store, where they beat him,\u201d the indictment read.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And for this he gets two years in a Haredi prison unit?\u00a0 How does this deter these hoodlums?\u00a0 Meanwhile these Haredi \u201cCosa Nostra\u201d groups are branching out<\/a>, completely unperturbed by the delicate treatment they receive in the courts.<\/p>\n

I suggest that Israeli legislators and prosecutors might want to brush up on how U.S. RICO statutes, originally passed to address traditional organized crime, have been successfully employed against violent anti-abortion \u201cactivists\u201d and bishops who protect pedophile priests.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
