What is so horrifying to Christians about the simple message that \u201cMillions of people are good without God?\u201d\u00a0 For the answer to that you would have to ask the angry Christians in Ft. Worth, Texas, who boycotted public buses carrying the message<\/a>.\u00a0 Or the ones who hired an advertising van to follow the buses around with their pro-Christian message.<\/p>\n

The ads, with their innocuously true assertion that, yes indeedy, some folks are good without God, were placed by the local branch of the United Coalition of Reason (CoR).\u00a0 That\u2019s the group I\u2019m helping to set up here in South Florida.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s especially disappointing that the Southern Christian Leadership Conference was one of the loudest groups in opposition to the ads.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what MLK Jr. had in mind when he founded it.\u00a0 Kyev Tatum Sr. is their local president:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a season to share good will toward all men,\u201d Mr. Tatum said. \u201cTo have this at this time come out with a blatant disrespect of our faith, we think is unconscionable.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Where is his good will?\u00a0 And more to the point, how is this \u201cblatant disrespect\u201d of his faith?\u00a0 What about our beliefs?\u00a0 Why is it that such a harmless expression of our convictions is so appalling to them?\u00a0 There\u2019s hardly a street in this whole country without a church bearing some kind of exhortation to love Jesus.<\/p>\n

So now the Ft. Worth transit people have banned any religious or atheist advertising.\u00a0 Can you blame them when they have to deal with this amount of crazy?\u00a0 Those poor bus drivers sure don\u2019t need the extra safety hazard of being tailgated by religious fanatics.<\/p>\n

For the Ft. Worth CoR, the controversy bought them a ton of attention for a pretty minimal investment.\u00a0 I wonder what the reaction will be when we start putting up ads in South Florida?<\/p>\n
