Religious people can\u2019t help wondering where he gets that impression\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Giberson shouldn\u2019t have to rack his brains too much for an answer.\u00a0 He can find a wonderful example on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nazarene.org\/ministries\/superintendents\/statements\/sexuality\/display.aspx\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">website<\/a> of his own college\u2019s sponsoring church:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The Church of the Nazarene believes that every man or woman should be treated with dignity, grace, and holy love, whatever their sexual orientation. However, we continue to firmly hold the position that the homosexual lifestyle is sinful and is contrary to the Scriptures.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Earlier today Google Alert brought to my attention another article about science and religion making nice.\u00a0 It\u2019s from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoriaadvocate.com\/news\/2010\/oct\/01\/faith_raymond_smith_100210_112876\/?features&amp;faith\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>newspaper in Victoria, Texas<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s a great illustration of how this whole idea gets played out in the middle of the country:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Science and Theology [sic] are two complementary disciplines, seeking to answer different types of questions. Science deals with the \u201chow,\u201d and theology with the \u201cwhy.\u201d Science makes our personal faith more exciting, interesting and rewarding.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Sounds very reasonable.\u00a0 Giberson should be quite happy.\u00a0 Then we get this:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Evolution is not really a science at all; it is a philosophy. Evolution must be believed; it cannot be observed.
