I\u2019ve tried to avoid partisan politics on this blog.\u00a0 Obviously, I\u2019m a political progressive, but there\u2019s one Republican that I do vote for.\u00a0 I even know a couple of secular humanistic Jews who are Republicans, though it confounds me!<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
When the stupidity of a candidate for office starts to make my head hurt, I can\u2019t avoid chiming in.\u00a0 This is certainly the case with Delaware\u2019s Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, Christine O\u2019Donnell.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
In 1996, MTV covered her campaign against the evils of masturbation.\u00a0 She seemed a little embarrassed by that, dismissing it as college enthusiasm.\u00a0 Then there was a more recent MSNBC clip of her endorsing abstinence for all un-married Americans that was just weird.\u00a0 Her total opposition to providing condoms, even to AIDS-ravaged Africa, was downright offensive.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Bill Maher is releasing an embarrassing clip each week until O\u2019Donnell appears on his Real Time<\/i> program.\u00a0 She was a very frequent guest on his old show, Politically Incorrect<\/i>, and he has quite the collection.\u00a0 Last week it was something about witchcraft that I didn\u2019t bother to read about.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
This week caught my attention.\u00a0 It\u2019s in the middle of the video below, but here\u2019s the really good part.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
O\u2019Donnell said, \u201cYou know what \u2014 evolution is a myth.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Then Maher asked her, \u201cHave you ever looked at a monkey?\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
At this point, she retorted, \u201cWell then, why aren\u2019t monkeys still evolving into humans?\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cIt takes a long time,\u201d dead-panned Maher.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
After I was done laughing at her, I became concerned.\u00a0 Could there be a better example of a dangerous combination of radical Christian and scientific ignoramus?\u00a0 This woman could be a United States Senator. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\nThen I remembered that if elected she will join some like-minded colleagues, even if they don\u2019t utter howlers like this one.\u00a0 Still concerned.\u00a0<\/span>
