The same could be said for me regarding motherhood. I am not a mommy blogger, but a blogger that happens to have a kid.

Someone recently thanked me for not being a mommy blog. Yes, I loathe most mommy blogs; specifically the ones that are all glitter crafts, home baked goods, and unrealistically well behaved kids. I call bull shit mostly because I know the nature of blogs, not necessarily the nature of someone else’s lifestyle. Mommy blogs show the world the best of their families or an ideal that they hope their families will aspire to. Catholic blogs aren’t much different.

I aspire to live fully Catholic so I write about Catholic things, not to give a false pretense of piety but to keep my faith near.. because yeah, sometimes the most pious thing I do all day is update this blog. Which isn’t saying much.

Anyway. I think my point was not to be so hard on mommy blogs. There are actually quite a few out there that honestly represent the joys and struggles of raising kids without being all in your face Big Family Triumphalist. Because in my opinion, those are the worst. The achievement isn’t in how many kids you can give birth to. So take heart, families with two or less kids.

Sirach 16: 1-3 “Do not yearn for worthless children, or rejoice in wicked offspring. Even if they be many, do not rejoice in them if they do not have fear of the LORD. Do not count on long life for them, or have any hope for their future. For one can be better than a thousand; rather die childless than have impious children!”

Ironically this verse only appears in the Catholic bible. You know Catholics, those mindless breeders. As you see, the mission of the Catholic parent is not to have six sets of Irish twins but to raise as many saints as we prayerfully believe we are capable of raising. With God’s grace and our honest effort, of course. Remember, holiness isn’t a numbers game.

Also before you pass judgement remember some people just aren’t physically capable of having so many children. Or any for that matter.

http://www.pajiba.com/seriously_random_lists/stfu-childless-people-the-10-most-annoying-complaints-nonbreeders-have-with-parents.php

http://www.peopleiwanttopunchinthethroat.com/2011/05/people-who-treat-their-dogs-like.html

… I have a friend who is fond of saying that she is not a Catholic blogger but rather a blogger who happens to be Catholic.
