\u2026 For my son\u2019s tenth birthday yesterday I took him to see The Hobbit<\/a><\/em>. If the previous Lord of The Rings<\/em> movies were any indication, there is a lot of walking in The Hobbit<\/em>. Roughly two hours of walking. It was during one of the many grand and lengthy walking scenes that my son leans over and wonders out loud, \u201cWhy doesn\u2019t Gandalf just summons those giant birds of his and be done with it?\u201d <\/p>\n

Which naturally reminded me of this\u2026<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nAnd at the end, well sort of the \u201cend\u201d [spoiler alert] when he does finally hitch a ride on the back of a giant magical eagle my son literally made this face\u2026<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/66\/2013\/01\/jackie-chan-meme.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/66\/2013\/01\/jackie-chan-meme-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"jackie-chan-meme\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8482\"><\/a><\/p>\n\u2026 and he absolutely couldn\u2019t believe that the damn birds dropped them off at the top of some cliff when they were clearly \u201calmost there!\u201d. The sheer exasperation on his face was priceless. \u201cThey were so close! Just a few more flaps and they\u2019s be at gates of the Lonely Mountain! Stupid birds! His annoyance with the whole movie was comical. He told me later, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t Gandalf just light those pine cones on fire to start with? It was like he kept forgetting he was a wizard<\/em>.
