charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><figure id=\"attachment_1622\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1622\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1622\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/1333\/2021\/04\/pexels-andrea-piacquadio-3931501-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1622\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Today I was typing a blog and accidentally typed \u201cquestions\u201d when I meant to type the word \u201cquest.\u201d\u00a0 That made me think about my deconstruction and how many times during this quest, I have been criticized just for asking questions.\u00a0 Like today, I asked whether anyone had read the book I\u2019m reading and was criticized by a professor for asking the wrong questions or having the wrong opinions.\u00a0 Other times, I was more directly question doctrine and beliefs and that often evoked an even stronger response.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up in a tradition that didn\u2019t like questions, unless they helped solidify the point the presenter was making.\u00a0 Anything that ventured outside the lines of the belief system was dangerous and considered too provocative to spend any real time on.\u00a0 Because of this, and maybe because of my reaction to this control, I find myself asking questions almost constantly now.<\/p>\n<p>The thing I discovered this morning was that quest was buried in the <strong>quest<\/strong>ions.<\/p>\n<p>So, what is questioning and what is it not?<\/p>\n<p>Questioning is <em>not to cause division<\/em>.\u00a0 When we ask questions, it is usually because we want a greater understanding or more unity.\u00a0 Generally, I don\u2019t think people want to be divisive.\u00a0 But there is something about truth and awareness that nag at us to uncover what is really so.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0We have a sense that we should journey to find what is true and we won\u2019t really be unified or at peace until we find it.\u00a0 And the best chance of finding it is through questions.<\/p>\n<p>Questions are also <em>not <\/em>to <em>disorient<\/em>.\u00a0 It may seem confusing to someone that is certain about everything and wants to promote a specific doctrine.\u00a0 But to the person genuinely on a <em>quest <\/em>for greater clarity, our certainty must occasionally be put on the stand to answer some questions.<\/p>\n<p>Questions are also <em>not because we are doubting.<\/em>\u00a0 It is actually the opposite.\u00a0 We ask questions because we have hope that there are better answers.\u00a0 The <em>quest <\/em>is for things like understanding and clarity and authenticity.\u00a0 We are hoping to evolve beyond the stagnant pool of our own conclusion and discover a better way to proceed.<\/p>\n<p>When the journeyer asks, \u201cwhat\u2019s over there,\u201d it is not simply because they are dissatisfied with their current situation.\u00a0 It is because they have found that questions, at their root, are about a quest.<\/p>\n<p>A quest for new life.<\/p>\n<p>A quest for new understanding.<\/p>\n<p>A quest for new direction.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s keep asking questions and stay on the quest (journey) until\u2026well, until forever.<\/p>\n<p>Be where you are, be who you are,<\/p>\n<p>Karl Forehand<\/p>\n<p><strong>(My book Being: A Journey Toward Presence and Authenticity is about a quest for being.\u00a0 It is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Being-Journey-Toward-Presence-Authenticity\/dp\/1734823461\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=karl+forehand+being&amp;qid=1619366770&amp;sr=8-1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amazon<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/being-karl-forehand\/1139288106?ean=9781734823462\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Barns and Noble<\/a>.\u00a0 It also has a companion guide called The Being Journey for individual or group studies)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/thedesertsanctuary\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Support us on Patreon<\/a>\u00a0 *\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/karlforehand.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Desert Sanctuary Website<\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Karl Forehand is a former pastor, podcaster, and award-winning author.
