Ensign knew the men  intimately; a few hours earlier, he had eaten dinner with them, as he  had nearly every Tuesday evening since he\u2019d come to Washington. Now they  were rebuking him for his recklessness. They told him he was  endangering his career, ruining lives, and offending God.<\/p>\n<p>The men  leading this intervention considered themselves Ensign\u2019s closest  friends in Washington. Four of those who confronted Ensign\u2014Senator Tom  Coburn and Representatives Bart Stupak, Mike Doyle, and Zach Wamp\u2014lived  with him in an eighteenth-century brick row house on C Street, in  southeast Washington, a short walk from the Capitol. The men regarded  themselves in part as an accountability group. He fulfilled  that promise in August. An Odyssey Networks film crew was with the  Archbishop as he returned.<\/p>\n<p>The Archbishop said that it is clear in Haiti that all of us are neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all in it together, we\u2019re all children of God and  we all have an obligation in charity and justice to one another. We\u2019re  all part of the same neighborhood,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u201cWhen I came  down a week after the earthquake,\u201d the Archbishop said, \u00a0\u201cI saw\u00a0medicine  from an Islamic country being loaded into a Catholic Relief Services  truck, being driven to a hospital (<a class=\"zem_slink decorated-link\" title=\"Francis de Sales\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Francis_de_Sales\" target=\"_blank\">St. Francis de Sales<\/a> Hospital) where  it was unloaded by Baptists and put into the hands of \u00a0Israeli doctors. Summarizing part of a book by Barbara Victor, a  U.S. journalist, about Palestinian women suicide bombers, the Gazan  woman was sharply critical of what she said was the author\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is only one way for women to have equality and respect and that  is to \u2018commit suicide, participate in an act of martyrdom or send off a  son to die.\u2019 Is that what she wants to say about our society and  religion?\u201d Ms. Abdel Latif asked. \u201cWell, there are 92,763 Palestinian  women in universities versus 75,221 men. In a competitive and  superheated news climate, a religious site calling for a <a href=\"http:\/\/christwire.org\/2010\/07\/boycott-bill-murray-for-a-better-america\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">boycott of Bill Murray<\/a>, \u201cmurderer of lambs,\u201d was, for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/blogs\/popcornbiz\/You-Beast--Christian-Website-Calls-For-Bill-Murray-Boycott-99239314.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">NBC Los Angeles<\/a>,  too good to not be true. The advice column \u201cIs My Husband Gay?\u201d (Does  he \u201ctravel frequently to big cities or Asia\u201d?) was, as the Atlantic  Wire\u2019s John Hudson discovered, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlanticwire.com\/opinions\/view\/opinion\/Satirical-Christian-Site-Hoodwinks-the-Huffington-Post-4766\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">taken at face value<\/a> by the Huffington Post.<\/p>\n<p>Christwire owners Bryan Butvidas and Kirwin Watson, after fielding  press queries and book offers for months, have finally decided to go  public. In an interview with <em>New York<\/em>, Butvidas said the site\u2019s basic concept is to \u201csee what Glenn Beck is talking about and then make it ten times worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to promote hate, we want to show how fake the world  really is,\u201d he said. \u201cWe write to see how far we can get people to  believe our nonsense. People believe anything they read on the  Internet.\u201d Do readers get the joke? Just like with the media, not  always.
