a huge dragonfly<\/a>, same colors as the one on the cover<\/a> of sin boldly, was beating itself silly against our patio light.<\/h6>\n
we gently lifted it into the bug box my darling aunt patti made for me when i was a little girl. our winged messenger spent the night in the box until sunrise, when we released it and if flew high and away toward the ocean.<\/h6>\n

The Dragonfly<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

You are made of almost nothing<\/p>\n

But of enough<\/p>\n

To be great eyes<\/p>\n

And diaphanous double vans;<\/p>\n

To be ceaseless movement,<\/p>\n

Unending hunger<\/p>\n

Grappling love.<\/p>\n

Link between water<\/a> and air<\/a>,<\/p>\n

Earth repels you.<\/p>\n

Light touches you only to shift into iridescence<\/a><\/p>\n

Upon your body and wings.<\/p>\n

Twice-born, predator,<\/p>\n

You split into the heat.<\/p>\n

Swift beyond calculation or capture<\/p>\n

You dart into the shadow<\/p>\n

Which consumes you.<\/p>\n

You rocket into the day.<\/p>\n

But at last, when the wind flattens the grasses,<\/p>\n

For you, the design and purpose stop.<\/p>\n

And you fall<\/p>\n

With the other husks of summer.<\/p>\n

My beloved sister\/soul-friend Susan sent me a mix-disk for my birthday. It\u2019s elegantly composed. I\u2019ll post the playlist later, but wanted to share this one song that Suse reminded me of: \u201cSnow on the Sahara<\/a>\u201d by Angunn. I hadn\u2019t listened to her album in years, but I\u2019d nearly worn it out when I first bought it. So blessed to be reminded of the beauty.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s something about the sound and delicacy (and yet might) of this song that evokes in my heart our winged night visitor. So here it is for your edification.<\/p>\n
