TO HELL OR CONNAUGHT? I\u2019LL TAKE CONNAUGHT \u2026<\/p>\n

At least for a few days.<\/p>\n

Friday marked my last day in the Sun-Times<\/span> newsroom. I sobbed all of Friday night and most of Saturday. Leaving that wacky place and its extraordinary denizens was one of the hardest things I\u2019ve ever done. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m off to write a couple of books (as you know)<\/a> but before I do, am shipping myself off to the old sod for a week to contemplate the notion of grace, the collected works of Flannery O\u2019Connor and Thomas Merton, and my navel (not necessarily in that order.) I\u2019ll be staying in quiet solitude in County Donegal for most of my Irish sojourn, but will indulge in a couple of days of Dublin (and maybe a little bit of craic<\/span>, as they say) at the end.<\/p>\n

By the way, contrary to some of the more colorful rumors floating around the journalism terrarium, I have not entirely ceded my religion beat at the Sun-Times<\/span>. I will continue to write my weekly GODSTUFF pop-goes-religion column, which you can see here in this space each week and possibly in a newspaper near you. (More on this later.)<\/p>\n

And yes, there is a TV show in development. But if I say more than that, there\u2019s a producer who will have my killed.<\/p>\n

So for the moment, fare thee well and play nicely until I get back. I\u2019ll be sending a dispatch from Connaught for Friday\u2019s paper and, if I can find a WiFi signal, to this space as well.<\/p>\n
