Stephen Marche<\/a> has a terrific piece in this morning\u2019s New York Times<\/em><\/a> about Tim Tebow<\/a>, religion, and miracles (of sport and otherwise).<\/p>\n

I inhaled it first thing today and it\u2019s the first sports piece I can recall having read in recent memory. And I liked it. And I learned things.<\/p>\n

You might, too.<\/p>\n

Marche says in part:<\/p>\n

It has nothing<\/strong> to do with Tebow\u2019s religion. The show-business aspects of Tebow\u2019s Christianity off the field are mostly a distraction. The virginity, the anti-abortion ad, the praying, the laying on of hands, the Tebowing \u2014 a pose in which he drops to one knee in prayer, the imitation of which became a brief Internet sensation \u2014 they\u2019re all so many stunts. What appealed to me was his absurdity.<\/p>\n

Last year, he took a team that was 1-4 to the A.F.C. West title and its first playoff game in seven years \u2014 and now he doesn\u2019t even play. How is that possible? What\u2019s more, even his ardent supporters admit he\u2019s physically incompetent at the very position he\u2019s supposed to be playing \u2014 his throwing motion is awkward, his passes are wobbly \u2014 yet, they argue, he seems to possess some higher talent, the oft-cited but ephemeral \u201cintangibles.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
