At the end of Wednesday\u2019s general audience in St. Peter\u2019s Square, Papa Frank embraced a man. He took the man\u2019s disfigured face in his hands, cradled it in his chest, kissed him, and blessed him.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d imagine the man is not used to being embraced like that \u2014 not by strangers, maybe not even by family and friends.<\/p>\n

But the Pope is a lover and, as I\u2019ve mentioned before, a hugger.<\/p>\n

According to CNN<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The man the Pope comforted suffers from neurofibromatosis, according to the Catholic News Agency<\/a>. The genetic disorder causes pain and thousands of tumors <\/a>throughout the body. It leads to hearing and vision loss, heart and blood vessel complications, and severe disability from nerve compression by tumors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Earlier today, Papa Frank tweeted the following: 11h<\/a> <\/small><\/p>\n

Saints are people who belong fully to God. They are not afraid of being mocked, misunderstood or marginalized.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I can\u2019t help but wonder whether Papa Frank was thinking of that man when he tweeted that.<\/p>\n

Also Wednesday at the general audience, @Pontifex congratulated a newlywed couple <\/a>who are members of L\u2019Associazione Arcobaleno Marco Iagulli-Onlus<\/a> (an organization that uses clowns and humor to cheer sick children). They\u2019re known by their red plastic noses \u2014 the international symbol for healing humor (think\u00a0Patch Adams<\/em>). They couple were wearing their wedding garb and their noses.<\/p>\n

So Papa Frank put a nose on, too. (Have I said today how much I love this guy?)<\/p>\n
