$\"TNJ-32.fw\"$ <\/a>I\u2019ve always been repelled by the Turn and Burn<\/em> crowd. I think, for me, the message is too negative, and does not share the love Jesus was speaking about. Now, those who desire to spread the Turn and Burn<\/em> message will tell you the reason I\u2019m repelled by their message is because \u201cI am not right with God;\u201d they tell me all the time, \u201cbecause you are not right with God,\u201d but I think it is much deeper; I\u2019m naturally repelled by their theology because I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what Jesus was sharing.<\/p>\n

The Jesus I know, and love, was not life condemning<\/em>, he was life-giving<\/em>. For me, I\u2019ve always been attracted to the Jesus that told me God loves me, and wants me to walk a faith journey where God will guide me. Not a God who\u2019ll push me around, harm me, judge me for every mistake I make, have made and will make. One who holds me when I\u2019m tired, one who whispers in my ears when I\u2019m challenged by live, and one willing to stand with me and support me through hard times of life.<\/p>\n

The God of Turn or Burn<\/em> isn\u2019t that God, it isn\u2019t the God Jesus speaks of. In John\u2019s narrative of the life of Jesus, he records Jesus as saying; \u201cI\u2019m not interested in crowd approval. And do you know why? Because I know you and your crowds. I know that love, especially God\u2019s love, is not on your working agenda<\/em>.[1]<\/a>\u201d The Turn and Burn<\/em> crowd doesn\u2019t share the Divine Love expressed in the Collective Narrative. Now, I\u2019ll admit they believe their theology is based on love; they love you so much they don\u2019t want you \u201cgo to hell,<\/em>\u201d but that\u2019s not Love. In Paul\u2019s second letter to the Corinthians, he share what love is, \u201cIf I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don\u2019t\u00a0love,\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I\u2019m bankrupt without\u00a0love<\/u>.<\/strong>\u00a0Love\u00a0never gives up. Love\u00a0cares more for others than for self.\u00a0Love\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0want\u00a0what it\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0have.\u00a0Love\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0strut, Doesn\u2019t\u00a0have a swelled head,\u00a0Doesn\u2019t\u00a0force itself\u00a0on\u00a0others,\u00a0Isn\u2019t\u00a0always \u201cme first,\u201d\u00a0Doesn\u2019t\u00a0fly off the handle,\u00a0Doesn\u2019t\u00a0keep score of the sins of others<\/u><\/strong>,\u00a0Doesn\u2019t\u00a0revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts\u00a0up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best<\/u><\/strong>, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end<\/em>.[2]<\/a>\u201d Paul adds, in his letter to the Galatians, \u201cI am not going to go back on that. Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

As I see it, it is not Turn and Burn<\/em>, it\u2019s Turn and know you are Loved<\/em>.<\/p>\n
