The todays and tomorrows of this election – a reflection

The todays and tomorrows of this election – a reflection November 6, 2012

Today many of us will vote.
Tomorrow many of us will gloat.

Today many of us are torn.
Tomorrow some of us will mourn.

Today many of us think we’re right.
Tomorrow this might cause fresh fights.

Today some wonder if our candidate is actually “pro-life.”
Tomorrow we keep praying for the unborn, the war-torn, the death row inmates, the poor, the disabled, the elderly, the marginalized, those not fitting our “normal” social categories, the undocumented immigrants doing all the work we Americans would almost never do, the people without health care, some folks who need welfare – and we will pray that they will actually know life!

Today we hope an election will change the world.
Tomorrow we remember that we first must become the kind of change we want to see in this world.

Today we are a church divided.
Tomorrow may we be God’s people united.

Today propaganda the media circus will bring.
Tomorrow may we pledge allegiance to Jesus the King!

Amen
