STORY<\/a>\u2013We choose to live into the narrative of God<\/em>.<\/p>\nOf all of our values, this can seem the most \u201cabstract.\u201d<\/p>\n
What does it mean to live into the story of God?<\/p>\n
Is it Bible memory? Nope. Is it bible study? Nope.<\/p>\n
Is it coming up with the right answers to the hard questions of theology? Nope.<\/p>\n
Although some of those things may be part of it, they are not the point. Too often we\u2019ve settled.<\/p>\n
God\u2019s story begins in creation and ends in new creation.<\/p>\n
God\u2019s story only helps when we recognize that all of life, including our personal lives, are storied.<\/p>\n
God\u2019s story requires actors and actresses.<\/p>\n
God\u2019s story invites us to life\u2019s stage as improvisationists.<\/p>\n
Just like a group of Shakespearian actors\/actresses would do if most of the resolution to a play were missing we must immerse into the Script we do have and improvise in continuity with it.<\/p>\n
Our story profoundly makes sense when it crosses paths with God\u2019s own story.<\/p>\n
Paul states: \u201cIf anyone is in Christ that person is part of the new creation.\u201d 2 Cor. 5.17a<\/p>\n
If anyone (our story)<\/p>\n
In Christ (God\u2019s story)<\/p>\n
\u2026that\u2019s the intersection of New Creation.<\/p>\n
The end of the story meets us in the present and unites us to the past.<\/p>\n
In our past, we find ancient practices that emerged as the church improv\u2019ed its way forward from the the days of the Apostles.<\/p>\n
In the present we hold hands with the past and the future.<\/p>\n
As we improv with a community of other committed actors, the new creation seems as though it is already here\u2026 and in a sense, it is.<\/p>\n
The only way to act out the story of God is to do so by immersing ourselves into the other parts of the story.<\/p>\n
If we do so, the possibilities are endless\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n
