For we are God\u2019s servants, working together; you are God\u2019s field, God\u2019s building.<\/span>10\u00a0<\/sup>According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it.\u00a0<\/span>11\u00a0<\/sup>For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a016\u00a0<\/sup>Do you not know that you are God\u2019s temple and that God\u2019s Spirit dwells in you?[a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>17\u00a0<\/sup>If anyone destroys God\u2019s temple, God will destroy that person. For God\u2019s temple is holy, and you are that temple.- 1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17 NRSV<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You Are God\u2019s Temple<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The passage from St. Paul\u2019s first letter to the Corinthians comes from today\u2019s Mass<\/a> readings.\u00a0 Today is the feast of the dedication of St. John Lateran, but in this reading we get a very important reminder.\u00a0 We get the reminder that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

Think about it.<\/p>\n

How many of us watch what we eat and exercise?\u00a0 Many of us do but many, like myself, need to do better in this area.\u00a0 There are many people who would look at their physical appearance and say that they are taking good care of themselves.\u00a0 Eating right and exercising is only one part of the equation.<\/p>\n

What Goes In Is What Comes Out<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Allow me to ask you question.\u00a0 What consumes your time in your daily life?\u00a0 There are many answers to this question, but lets apply it to our bodies being temples of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 You may eat right and workout, but what else are you consuming?<\/p>\n

Perhaps you overindulge in adult beverages way too often, look at pornography, sleep around, or commit adultery.\u00a0 I don\u2019t say this to non-Christians, though it still applies, but to Christians.\u00a0 Those who proclaim Christ and yet are treating their bodies as something less than a creation that is made in the image of God.<\/p>\n

These are only examples, but is this how we treat the temple of the Holy Spirit?\u00a0 I don\u2019t say this to pass judgment because we have all fallen short.\u00a0 We all mess up and sin.<\/p>\n

As we go through today lets examine our lives.\u00a0 Is there something that you do on a regular basis that defames the temple?\u00a0 We can work on it and rely on the grace of Christ to get better.\u00a0 Don\u2019t give up and don\u2019t give in.<\/p>\n
