<\/p>\nFather Thomas\u00a0Tureman, SDS has been\u00a0elected\u00a0as the Provincial Superior for the Society of the Divine Savior (known as the Salvatorians) in the United States. He is currently the pastor at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Parish on Tucson\u2019s west side, a community\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0led for the last 11 years. As the new provincial of the Salvatorians\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0be\u00a0relocating\u00a0to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n
Before returning home, Fr. Tom spoke with the New Outlook and explained that he did not expect to be named provincial of the USA province. \u201cI was shocked and honored that the chapter decided they needed me as the provincial.\u201d \u00a0Fr. Tom stated that Salvatorian provincials often serve two terms of three years. \u201cI\u2019m 70, I guess I\u2019m going to have to delay my retirement for a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Salvatorian society is\u00a0somewhat small\u00a0in the US with foundations in Milwaukee, WI., Sacramento, CA., Huntsville, AL., and Tucson. \u00a0A provincial serves the needs of the province and works with his leadership team charting the future of the community.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re like a nationwide parish,\u201d Fr. Tom said.<\/p>\n
Salvatorians exist in 30 countries, headquartered in Rome.\u00a0Tureman\u00a0said, \u201cOur ministry is about helping people know the goodness and kindness of the Savior.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0in parishes and schools; we do missionary work all over the world but especially in Africa, South America, and Asia where we are developing the Church.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fr. Tom first came to the diocese in 1995 where he served Saint Cyril of Alexandria Parish as a Paulist Father. He later switched orders and became a Salvatorian. \u00a0As he looks back on his time at Most Holy Trinity, he is most proud of how the parish handled itself during the Covid 19 health crisis. Fr. Tom added, \u201cAs a community we stuck together. We were creative in caring for people. It was\u00a0probably the\u00a0proudest moment of my ministry because that\u2019s when people needed the Church and the support it can offer.\u201d<\/p>\n
As he prepares to leave Tucson, Father Tom said\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0miss the community the most. \u201cThe people have been incredible.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a welcoming and caring environment. I am\u00a0rather prejudice\u00a0in saying that Most Holy Trinity is the most loving parish in the city,\u201d he said with a laugh.<\/p>\n
About six years ago\u00a0Tureman\u00a0learned to fly, \u201cIt was always a dream. Then one day an opportunity presented itself and I went for it. \u00a0After all, life on the ground is too messy.\u201d He hopes to continue his hobby in Milwaukee though he knows\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0be busy over the next few years. \u201cIn the future I\u2019ll be traveling to Tanzania in East Africa then Bogota, Colombia.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fr. Tom leaves Tucson at the end of May but is confident the mission of Most Holy Trinity will continue to grow. \u00a0\u201cI hope I prepared them well. \u00a0Most Holy Trinity is a wonderful parish.\u201d<\/p>\n
