Okay, maybe I\u2019m reaching here. \u00a0If my daily blog hits reach into double digits, I do a victory dance. \u00a0(No, I will not post a video of the victory dance. \u00a0It\u2019s enough that the people who have witnessed it in person are still running around in circles trying to poke out their mind\u2019s eye with a fork.)<\/p>\n

Last fall and winter, I did a good bit of blogging about gender issues<\/a>. \u00a0Roles, stereotypes, perceptions, treatment in the media, politics \u2013 all related to gender. \u00a0A couple of those posts focused on the condescending and misguided launch of the pink Lego line of toys. \u00a0At the end of it, though, I still backed the idea of buying the pink Legos \u2013 but buying them for boys as well as for girls. \u00a0(I was particularly incensed by this Today Show clip<\/a>, wherein Donnie Deutch, Matt Lauer, and Nancy Snyderman openly mocked the notion that a parent might ever be brave enough to buy pink toys for their son. \u00a0Morons.) \u00a0So, if you\u2019re in the mood, you can read my powerful and irrefutable logic regarding pink and pink legos here<\/a>, here<\/a> and here<\/a>. \u00a0For those of you who can\u2019t handle that much brilliance in one sitting, here\u2019s a brief summary.<\/p>\n

Every color should be for both genders. \u00a0Including pink. \u00a0The end. \u00a0Or something like that. \u00a0Trust me, I\u2019m more articulate in the links provided above, so just go read them.<\/p>\n

So, imagine my joy and surprise when I was watching the Olympics, and this commercial for Chevy trucks came on.<\/p>\n http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Mrl-mm-7WM8<\/a>\n

Notice anything? \u00a0ANYONE NOTICE ANYTHING? \u00a0It\u2019s an ad for a TRUCK. \u00a0The little boy in the ad is playing with a toy version of the TRUCK. \u00a0In his lovely toy world he has set up for this truck are PINK THINGS. \u00a0Yes. \u00a0A pink house, pink ponies, girls in pink, etc. \u00a0Among other toys included in this imaginary world are monkeys, a rocket, a Ken doll, and a Barbie-type doll with DARK hair who is dressed like a badass. \u00a0(Yes, her proportions are ridiculous. \u00a0Yes, her midriff is showing. \u00a0I addressed my thoughts on issues like these in other blog posts.) \u00a0Even lovelier, though, is that this inclusion of pink in a boy\u2019s world is treated in the commercial as a total non-issue \u2013 as I\u2019ve been arguing for YEARS that it should be.<\/p>\n

Way to go, Chevrolet. \u00a0I wish I could afford to buy a Chevy truck for the sole purpose of making a statement of support and appreciation. \u00a0A Chevy TOY truck will have to do for now. \u00a0In the meantime, Donnie Deutch, Matt Lauer and Nancy Snyderman can kiss My Little Pony\u2019s pink butt.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
