As Guy Clark<\/a> wrote, \u201cOnly two things that money can\u2019t buy \/ That\u2019s true love and homegrown tomatoes.\u201d<\/p>\n

I arrived home from a vacation\/brother\u2019s wedding last night, and it was too dark and buggy to venture out into the garden. So first thing this morning, out I went and found a bounty of tomatoes on the vine, plus the last few beans of the season.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been said before \u2014 many, many times by Garrison Keillor<\/a> \u2014 that one of the wonderful things about living in a place like Minnesota is that we don\u2019t take things like homegrown tomatoes for granted.\u00a0 There\u2019s a short window of time when they\u2019re available.\u00a0 That window has just opened, and it will slam shut in about a month.\u00a0 Then all that will be left in my garden is the squash and pumpkins that I hope will last into the fall.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve started the long descent into autumn.\u00a0 It may be 95 and humid out, but my kids are talking about school everyday.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got our plans for the State Fair.\u00a0 Grandma just bought them all back-to-school jeans.<\/p>\n

But, we\u2019re not quite there yet. For now, we\u2019ve got homegrown tomatoes.\u00a0 Here\u2019s Guy Clark\u2019s homage to them:<\/p>\n
