Time.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today in the Gospel, we meet Christ at the beginning of his public mission to tell people <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>the gospel of God<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, as he begins it all, he sums up <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>the gospel of God<\/em><\/strong><\/span> in four short announcements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>This is the time of fulfillment.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in the gospel.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The first two announcements promise something.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>This is the time of fulfillment.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The other two announcements make demands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in the gospel.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To receive fulfillment and enter the kingdom, we need to repent and believe.<\/p>\n<p>Where and what is the kingdom of God?<\/p>\n<p>Why does it require repentance and faith?<\/p>\n<p>The kingdom of God is paradise, and Christ is king and God.<\/p>\n<p>This all repeats itself in the final hours of Christ on the cross.<\/p>\n<p>On the cross, a sign over his head calls him <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>king<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The executioner-soldiers mock him, saying: <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>If you are a king, save yourself!<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>An unnamed criminal, also suffering crucifixion, announces his own repentance, confessing that he deserves to die for his deeds.<\/p>\n<p>Then he declares his faith in the innocence of Christ and the kingship of Christ: <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Christ canonizes him on the spot as a citizen of his kingdom: <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Amen, I say to you, this day YOU will be with ME in PARADISE.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As our original <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>doubt<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>sin<\/strong> <\/span>threw and barred us from paradise in the first place, so <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>repentance<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>faith<\/strong> <\/span>are the way back to paradise where Christ is king.<\/p>\n<p>Not<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\"> FAITH<\/span> <\/strong>alone, but <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>REPENTANCE<\/strong> <\/span>and faith!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>This is the time of fulfillment.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in the gospel.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>What is it to repent?<\/p>\n<p>The word for <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>repent<\/em><\/strong> <\/span>in the original language of the gospel means literally <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>change your mind<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>During the rest of his public teaching, Christ explained in many ways what was involved in changing your mind.<\/p>\n<p>Repenting, changing your mind, involves change in three ways.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You freely challenge the way you <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>THINK<\/strong> <\/span>with new ways.<\/li>\n<li>You freely challenge your <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>FEELINGS<\/strong> <\/span>with new ways.<\/li>\n<li>You freely challenge the way you <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>BEHAVE<\/strong> <\/span>with new ways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And what are these new ways of <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>THINKING<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>FEELING<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>BEHAVING<\/strong><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p>In the Gospel today, after beginning to tell people to repent\u2014 to take on new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving\u2014 Christ sets up a real life example.<\/p>\n<p>He calls four men\u2014 Simon, Andrew, James, John\u2014 and gives them a stark challenge for their thinking, feeling and living.<\/p>\n<p>He tells them to leave behind their livelihoods, possessions, homes, families, coworkers and neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>For their new livelihood, new possession, new home, new family, new coworker and new neighbor they are to have Christ and his mission.<\/p>\n<p>Christ is the new way challenging my old and same old ways of thinking, feeling and living.<\/p>\n<p>Christ is to be the reason and goal of my repentance and my faith.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Christ is the time of fulfillment.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand in Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent for Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Today Christ tells Simon, Andrew, James and John: <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Come after me and I will make you fishers of men<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Come after me.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in me.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>I will change your thinking, feeling and behavior so that you will draw others to fulfillment in paradise.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>This is the time of fulfillment.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in the gospel.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Whether two thousand years ago by the Sea of Galilee or within this very hour here in his Eucharistic Body and Blood, Christ challenges us to think, feel and act differently, in a new way, to freely choose to have him be the difference and the new way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>History and time are fulfilled in the Body and Blood of Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The kingdom of God is at hand in the Body and Blood of Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Repent for the Body and Blood of Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>Believe in the Body and Blood of Christ.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If we do not choose to repent of old ways, then it is pointless for us to receive Christ in his Body and Blood.<\/p>\n<p>Without repentance, we are choosing to be like the broken nets that James and John were mending in today\u2019s Gospel.<\/p>\n<p>The King of Paradise is here, and broken nets cannot catch or hold him.<\/p>\n<p>You have to run after him.<\/p>\n<p>Broken nets get left behind.<\/p>\n<p>Repent and believe!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Turn. Love.
