Last Sunday, Lin-Manuel Miranda\u2019s\u00a0Hamilton<\/em> won 11 well-deserved Tony Awards, and, last week, I wrote an appreciation of the show for Aleteia<\/a>. In keeping with Miranda\u2019s style, it\u2019s a mashup: the\u00a0grace-filled story of Hamilton\u2019s adultery and the way he is forgiven paired with St. Therese of Liseux\u2019s advice for withstanding temptation.<\/p>\n

The choice he refused to acknowledge as a choice kept rippling out, leaving no part of his life undamaged. If Hamilton was tempted to despair at his own weakness before, this should be enough to blot out all hope. If he couldn\u2019t simply leave the room to avoid a sin, he has no power to undo the effects of the sin.<\/p>\n

Luckily, Miranda\u2019s play acknowledges that grace doesn\u2019t depend on Hamilton\u2019s strength.<\/p>\n
