Lent starts very late this year, but I was prompted to start thinking about the season while reading a blog post at Abigail\u2019s Alcove. \u00a0Abigail is trying to focus on strengthening a sense of love and charity for all people, and is considering praying for Osama bin Laden<\/a> as part of her Lenten discipline.<\/p>\n Last year, I made two Lenten resolutions: one religious, one secular. \u00a0I tried to commit to using my free weights every day and to giving prayer a chance every night. \u00a0Frankly, I\u2019m not sure which of those was more of a failure. To protect my pride, I\u2019ve only blogged about my frustration with the one pertinent to this blog. \u00a0(Reflections on trying prayer were posted in two<\/a> parts<\/a>).<\/p>\n When it comes to secular endeavors, I\u2019m planning to stick with physical fitness, since I have no upper body strength and have a\u00a0tendency\u00a0to get winded walking up the four flights to my dorm room. \u00a0My considerably more\u00a0athletic\u00a0brother has recommended the 200 Sit-Ups program<\/a> to me, and I\u2019m going to give it a shot. \u00a0It\u2019s a really clearly laid out program you work through at your own pace, and I like everything to be as quantified and benchmarked as possible.<\/p>\n When it comes to a religious\u00a0endeavor for Lent, I\u2019m at sea. \u00a0Christian readers are welcome to recommend a task or practice I should adopt during Lent, and I\u2019ll be open to experiment.<\/p>\n If atheist readers want to suggest any books\/activities that they think Christians should try to better understand our side, I\u2019ll write up those suggestions in a\u00a0separate\u00a0post.<\/p>\n
