<\/a><\/p>\nEarlier this week, I posted the lengthy<\/em> list of books<\/a> that readers recommended in response to my New Year\u2019s Challenge<\/a>. \u00a0I\u2019ve been looking through the list, and I\u2019m narrowing down some books to start with. \u00a0This Sunday, I\u2019ll be posting my thoughts about Lee Strobel\u2019s The Case for Faith<\/a>, a book I was in the middle of before I solicited suggestions. \u00a0The books that follow are the one\u2019s I\u2019m most inclined to read next, so they may be showing up on a \u201cSunday\u2019s Good Book<\/a>\u201d feature sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve really liked all the C.S. Lewis I\u2019ve read, and, after I got a recommendation from Mark Shea<\/a>, I\u2019m definitely inclined to put The Abolition of Man<\/a>\u00a0on the list. \u00a0Plus, since I\u2019ve got a Lewis omnibus, I\u2019ve already got a copy, making this the easiest one to pick.<\/p>\n More than one commenter suggested I check out Kierkegaard\u2019s Fear and Trembling<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0My offline friends have recommended it to me, too, but what clinched it is the way<\/em>\u00a0they recommended it to me. \u00a0More than one of my classmates has said some\u00a0variant\u00a0on the following to me:<\/p>\n \u201cYou should definitely check out Fear and Trembling, I think you\u2019ll find it really interesting.\u201d How could I turn down such a pitch?<\/p>\n \u20134\u2013<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Given how very often I hear Richard Rorty referenced and how very little I know about his ideas, I probably have a duty to read Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0While doing a search of my email, I found that his name, and this book specifically, have frequently come up in questions. \u00a0You spoke, I listened.<\/p>\n Some of you suggested fiction, which always<\/em>\u00a0makes me happy. \u00a0Graham Greene made it on the list with\u00a0The Heart of the Matter<\/a>\u00a0and The Power and the Glory<\/a>\u00a0so I\u2019ll probably read one of those two. \u00a0Plus, I do <\/em>have a long-standing promise to Tristyn of Eschatological Psychosis<\/a>\u00a0to read Crime and Punishment<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0Several Christian converts I know cite Dostoyevsky\u2019s novel as a strong force in their decision to become Christians.<\/p>\n There were a couple of votes for The Agnostic Inquirer: Revelation from a Theological Perspective<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0I don\u2019t know that my library has that one, so I\u2019d appreciate links to reviews before I think about whether to buy a copy.<\/p>\n And the rest are up to you! \u00a0Take another look at the big list<\/a> and make a pitch for any you\u2019ve read and loved.
